When You Dare by Lori Foster

When Dare Macintosh goes into Mexico to rescue one of his best friend Trace's sister, Alani, from human slave traders, he finds himself a "complication" in the form of another female. Molly Alexander has been kidnapped as well, but not for the same purpose as Alani. After rescuing both women and safely reuniting Trace with his little sister, Dare must figure out what to do with Molly.

Molly Alexander turns out to be a rather famous romance writer who may or may not have enemies and  needs to find out who would have her kidnapped and for what reason. She hires Dare to protect her and discover who would have planned such a thing. In the process of the investigation, sparks fly between both parties. In between the sparks and the investigation, Dare must figure out the dynamics of Molly's unconventional family. She is from an affluent family, but apparently has little or nothing to do with anyone except for her sister Natalie.

When You Dare is the first novel in a trilogy with a prequel "Ready, Set, Jett!" in the Anthology The Guy Next Door. I suggest reading the prequel as it does give some pertinent background and is a good read.In "Ready, Set, Jett!" we meet Molly's sister, Natalie and her private investigator love interest Jett Sutter.

I loved that Dare was not only a badass, tough as nails protector of the innocent, but he has a sensitive, soft side for all those he cares about. Molly was definitely not your typical whiny heroine, she held her own consistently in the face of danger and adversity. I really liked the two of them, they played off each other well and their attraction for one another was awesome.

I really enjoyed this book and am eagerly awaiting Trace of Fever in June and then Savor the Danger in July and I know you all will too!If you haven't read Lori Foster, I highly suggest you do. When You Dare is well written and holds your attention with it's constant action and sexual tension. GREAT READ! And the super hot cover doesn't hurt either!!!!

First Time in PrintFiercely independent, Molly vows to trust no one until she's uncovered the truth. Could the enemy be her powerful, estranged father? The ex-fiancĂ© who still holds a grudge? But what she feels for him just might be the most frightening thing of all…

When You DareDare came into the hotel room quietly, saw Molly curled on the bed, and frowned. The towel barely covered her, and with her knees pulled up, he would get one hell of a peep-show if he moved to the foot of the bed.
Not that he would. In many cases he lacked scruples; it was a hazard of the job. But with women, with this woman, he wasn’t about to take advantage. Despite her bravado and commonsense reaction to her nightmare, he’d never seen anyone more emotionally fragile.
Besides, the less involvement he had with her, unscrupulous or otherwise, the better. He needed to figure out what had happened to her, and the quickest way to safely remove her from his care.
He’d known she was spent, on the ragged edge, but the fact that she hadn’t even pulled the covers over herself proved her level of exhaustion.
More than anything, she probably needed to eat. But should he wake her for that when she also needed sleep?
He wasn’t a damn babysitter, but since he’d personally gotten her out of Mexico, he couldn’t very well just dump her somewhere. By rescuing her, he had accepted an implied responsibility.
Trying not to rattle the bags and juggling the food with his other purchases, Dare closed the door and locked it. A glance at the bedside clock showed the time at one-thirty A.M. He’d only been gone a half hour, tops.
Luckily the WalMart across the street stayed open twenty-four hours. He’d found not only clothes for her, but food, too. Dressing and feeding her would go a long way toward resolving her most pressing issues.
With barely a sound, he stowed the drinks in the tiny fridge and put her share of the food into the microwave to keep.
Removing his wallet, change and cell phone from his jeans, he placed them neatly on the desk. Next he took out his knife and the Glock 9mm he carried, and set them beside his other belongings. He stretched out his knotted muscles. Too many hours crawling over rough ground, ducking for cover and demolishing men without enough sleep or food had left him tense and weary.
After pulling a chair out from the round table, he opened the covering on his pancakes and coffee.
He’d taken only one bite when she stirred, sniffed the air, and drowsily opened her eyes. Dare turned toward her.
She gave him a “deer caught in the headlights” look.
He studied her, a small bundle huddled tight on the bed, face still ravaged and eyes wounded. Never had he seen a woman look so vulnerable.
He swallowed his bite and, sounding as casual as he could under the circumstances, asked, “Hungry?”
She stared back, then struggled up to one elbow. Her expression changed, the wariness hidden beneath that intrepid bravado. “Starved. Literally.”
Dare's DogsWith all the dirt removed, her big eyes dominated her small features. More marks showed on her fair skin, one on her cheekbone and under her left eye, one on her throat, and a darker, angrier bruise on her right shoulder.
She breathed deeply, her eyes closing and her nostrils flaring. “That smells so good.”
Out of his seat already, Dare fetched her food. “Do you want to sit here, or eat in the bed?”
She hesitated, looking down for a moment as if uncertain of her welcome, not wanting to inconvenience him. “Table please, but... I should dress first.”
“All right.” He set the food on the table and opened the bag of clothes, pulling out a few T-shirts, panties and a pair of pull-on cotton shorts. “You can get more stuff tomorrow if you feel up to it. Something warmer, maybe, and nicer for the plane ride. But for now, I figured this would fit.”
Dare's DogsShe didn’t look at the clothes. The arm she leaned on barely supported her, and her breath went choppy with effort.
Voice weak, strained, she said, “I’m sorry, but... I haven’t eaten in too long and I’m feeling kind of... faint.”
Dare straightened, going on alert. Would she pass out on him?
“If...if you could help me into the bathroom, I’ll dress in there.”
Shit. He did not want her passing out alone, maybe hitting her head. “Yeah, no problem.”
Dare moved to the bed and slipped an arm behind her, then drew her to her feet. She swayed into him, one hand clutching at his shirt and holding on for dear life.
She made no attempt to step away. He didn’t ask her to. “What would you like to do?”
“I can’t...” She choked, cleared her throat, and her voice was so low he barely heard her when she said, “This is embarrassing, but the shower...” She swallowed. “I think I’m depleted.”
Easing her back onto the bed, Dare knew he’d have to be firm to get her agreement. “Okay, Molly, listen up.” He kept his tone as impersonal as possible. “This isn’t a big deal. I can dress you. I can even feed you.”
She rolled in her lips with embarrassment, a habit he’d already noticed.
“It’s nothing I haven’t done before,” he lied.
That brought her dark eyes up to his.
Damn, but her eyes could melt a man’s soul. “I’m in the personal protection business. You’re not the first woman I’ve rescued. You’re not even in the worst shape.” Another lie. Most women he retrieved were found in the first forty-eight hours before too much damage had been done—or they weren’t found at all. “Okay?”
Still with her gaze locked on his, she nodded.
When You Dare
“Good girl.” He grabbed the clothes from the bag, not really discomfited with the task, but he’d just as soon get past it.
Taking clothes off a woman, yeah, he had plenty of practice with that.
Dressing the near-dead... not so much.

Long Hard Ride by Lorelei James

Long Hard Ride by Lorelei James begins with Ms. Channing Kincaid  in a wet t-shirt contest in a honkeytonk bar along the rodeo circuit in the mid-west. Channing isn't your ordinary "buckle bunny"(a term for rodeo groupies) though, she is evidently a very intelligent college educated soon to be teacher who is looking for some excitement, and boy,   or should I say "cowboy"does she find it!

Colby West McKay is a seriously hot cowboy who has been lusting after Channing for a while. When Channing's previous companion's marital status comes to light, Channing dumps that boy quick and is left in the dust, until Colby tracks her down with a proposition to make her mouth water, among other things....

Long Hard Ride takes us on a wild ride with Colby, his rodeo pals, Trever and Edgar and Channing. We also are treated to an eye-opening side story with Trevor and Edgar, which is amazing.

Long Hard Ride is the first cowboy/erotic romance I've read, thanks to the urging of my most awesome Book Obsessed Chick, Dr. Jenn. At first I was skeptical but once I gave in and read it was was hooked. Lorelei James is a marvelous writer and wow does she write.I love these books. Long Hard Ride is the first in the ongoing Rough Rider series. These books are definitely ADULT oriented reading.

Here is an excerpt from  Long Hard Ride by Lorelei James

Channing nursed a Bud Light in a corner booth. She picked at her second bowl of pretzels and listened to the jukebox wailing another sad song about love gone wrong. In her life even lust had gone wrong.
The cowbell on the front door clanked against the wood as the door opened again, then slammed shut. This was a busy place. Maybe if all else failed she could get hired to sling beer. Her focus strayed to the list of options she’d jotted in her journal, none of which appealed to her.
The bench seat across from her creaked. Thinking Moose had swung by to flirt, she smiled and looked up.
But Colby McKay grinned back at her. “Thought I might find you here, darlin’.”
Channing suppressed a feminine sigh. His dimples ought to be illegal. “I figured you’d already taken off.”
“I could say the same. I heard what happened last night.”
She reached for her pencil. “I’m sure everyone has heard by now.” Her gaze narrowed. “Why didn’t you tell me Jared was married?”
“Because you’d be pissed off at me thinkin’ I had some ulterior motive in tellin’ you the truth.” He spun her notebook around and studied it. “Which is entirely true. But it don’t matter now.”
“That ulterior motive why you’re here?”
“Yep.”
Her heart thudded. She struggled to project an image of absolute calm. “As I’m short on options, I’m open to suggestions.”
“Fair enough. Tell me something first, before we get into those options.”
“Okay.”
“What are you runnin’ from?”
It was tempting to hedge or flat out lie. She did neither. “My past. My future. Take your pick.”
“Maybe you oughta explain that confusin’ comment to this dumb ol’ country boy.”
She rolled her eyes. “Dumb, yeah right. You don’t fool me, Colby McKay.”
“And you don’t fool me, Channing Kinkaid.”
His meaning settled on her thick, sweet and sticky as wild honey.
“My story is not that interesting, actually. I’ve followed the rules—my parent’s rules—my whole life. Just like my older sister, I graduated from an Ivy League school of their choice. Got my Masters degree because that’s what offspring of the people in their social circle do. My dad lined up a teaching job for me at a prestigious private prep school starting in the fall.”
“And?”
She gripped the wooden pencil so tightly it cracked. “And when Mom and Dad introduced me to a wimpy accountant who reeked of Old Spice and old money, and they encouraged me to accept his marriage proposal after one lousy date, I snapped. I realized I wasn’t living my life; I was living theirs. I needed a break and ran away with the rodeo.”
Colby smiled and gently removed the gnawed-on, broken pencil from her death grip. “Regrets about that?”
“Besides my poor choice of a traveling partner? Strangely enough, no.”
His thumb swept across the vein on the inside of her wrist, sending tingles up her forearm. “What are your plans now that Jared is gone?”
“That’s what I’m sitting here trying to figure out.”
“Do you want to go home?”
“God, no.”
“Good.” Colby angled across the narrow table and repeatedly brushed the back of his knuckles over her cheek. “Run away with me, Channing. At least until we get to Cheyenne next week.”
He’d spoken the words she’d wanted to hear. Yet, her sole focus was how the continual rasp of his rough skin on hers caused her insides to quake. Her blood to burn. Her sex to moisten.
Her breathing grew ragged when he trailed those callused fingertips down the gentle curve of her neck. He traced her collarbone with a touch as fleeting as the flutter of butterfly wings. Then he drew circles progressively lower on her chest. All while watching her reaction with his electric blue eyes.
“Naturally, there’d be conditions if I take you on.”
Oh yeah. She’d agree to any conditions as long as they included hot, wet, raunchy, shaking-the-rafters sex with him every single night. “You can be damn sure I’ll know exactly what I’m getting into this time before I go anywhere with you or anyone else like Jared.”
“I ain’t like Jared at all,” he scoffed.
“I know. That’s why I didn’t smack you with my purse when you showed up.”
“I still scare you, though, don’t I?”
“A little.”
“I shouldn’t. We’re more alike than you know.”
“Hmm. You think that’s why I kinda like you, cowboy?”
“Yeah. And the feeling’s mutual, shug.”
She smiled. “First things first. I can pay my own way to Cheyenne.”
Annoyance flitted across his face. “We’ll see.”
“Is there a sweetie—wife or girlfriend—baking apple pies and waiting for you on the front porch back at home?”
He shook his head. “After this summer rodeo season ends, hopefully I’ll have enough points accumulated to qualify me for the NFR in Vegas come December. If not, I oughta have enough to compete in the Dodge Circuit Finals in Pocatello in March. I’ll keep up in the points standings by goin’ to events closer to home. In the meantime I’ll be back in Wyoming to help my dad and brothers run the ranch.”
“And more likely than not I’ll be teaching on the East Coast.”
Something dark shifted in his eyes.
“Then we understand each other?” she prompted.
“For now.”
She frowned, not understanding his cryptic answer. “So, about these conditions.”
Colby studied her carefully from beneath the brim of his hat. “You’ll be in my bed.”
Her pulse fluttered. “I figured that much.”
“As well as Trevor and Edgard’s.”
Channing’s jaw dropped. “I’d be sleeping with all three of you?”
“No. You’d be fucking all three of us, ain’t gonna be much sleepin’ involved.” Colby scooted forward, his handsome face serious, his blue eyes intent. “Forget about what other people might think, and consider what you want, Channing. What you’ve always wanted but have been denied because it’s been against those blasted rules you’ve followed.”
She swallowed hard. “I’m still listening.”
“I’m used to havin’ a different woman every night if I choose.”
“And these women you pick up have no problem being passed between the three of you?”
He grinned. “Shockin’, ain’t it? What America’s youth has come to?”
