Joan Swan's Debut Novel ~ FEVER ~

Teague Creek is a convicted murderer who used to be a well respected Fireman/Paramedic. Alyssa Foster is a Physician just trying to get ahead in a man's world. Teague's and Alyssa's worlds collide when Teague escapes taking the attractive Doctor as his hostage in the escape along with evil inmate, Taz. During the escape Alyssa finds Teague has a very odd ability, which as a Doctor intrigues as well as terrifies her.

All Teague wants is to be free of prison and to take back something that's solely his. Unfortunately, circumstances are making his quest almost impossible. Alyssa isn't the hostage he thought she was and things get out of control when in addition to fighting the system and the rest of the world, he's fighting a losing battle over his attraction to the lovely but prickly Dr. Foster.

While on the run from the authorities, Alyssa finds there is so much more than meets the eye to this "convict".
She discovers a conspiracy and against her better judgment jumps head in to try to right the many wrongs done to then once respected Teague Creek.

I loved this book!  What a great debut novel for such an awesome writer. I adore how Joan mixes tension and passion at the same time. The allure of colliding people from two seemingly different lifestyles is heady to say the least here. I can honestly say, at the beginning of the book I had an extreme distaste for Mr. Creek and with Joan Swan's amazing twists, my mind did a flip! Fever is a must read. Bravo Joan Swan, you have a hit on your hands!

Kat Martin's Against The Night~Book 5 of The Raines of Wind Canyon

Amy's sister Rachael is missing. The last Amy Brewer heard of her, she was working as an exotic dancer at the Kitty Cat Club in L.A. Schoolteacher Amy flies from her small hometown in Michigan to L.A. to find Rachael. Amy goes undercover as Angel, an exotic dancer at the same club Rachael worked at in hopes of discovering clues in her search for her sister. At the urging of one of her fellow workers at the Kitty Cat Club, Amy recruits the help of ex Army Ranger- now Private Investigator, Johnnie Riggs in her search.

Johnnie has seen "Angel" dance at the club and is already attracted to the mysterious female and he has the feeling helping her out will wind him up in a whole mess of trouble. Against his better judgment he accepts the job and the race is on to find Rachael before the trail becomes  cold and they lose her forever. Can Johnnie objectively do his job while he and Amy's relationship becomes explosive?

The Raines of Wind Canyon is one of my favorite series ever. Against the Night does not disappoint , the sizzling chemistry with Johnnie and Amy is major in this book. Kat Martin is a master at bringing two opposites together to create fireworks. Against the Night is typical Kat Martin, action-packed, mysterious and a roller-coaster ride from start to finish. Yet another fabulous read from Kat Martin.

Last evening Book Obsessed Chicks Book Club featured author Chastity Bush. We had an awesome turnout and the ladies sent Chastity questions which she very gladly answered for us. Here is a copy of the Q&A that we sent Chastity.

Where are you from?
I'm originally from Oklahoma, and currently live in Whitefield, OK. It's a tiny town, but I love how cozy it is. I also lived all over the state of Texas as a teenager.

How Did you get into writing?
Writing was my hubby's idea. Im an avid reader and always have been. One day my hubby walked in and saw some new books on the table and suggested I write one of my own. After the I have t been able to stop writing.
Who is your inspiration?
Hmm... I'd have to say personally I'm always inspired by my family, (my hubby and kids) I want what's best for them, and they stand behind me 100%.
Favorite authors
I love Kresley Cole. Her Immortals After Dark series is my absolute favorite. I also love Stephanie Laurens, Hannah Howell, Lorelei James, an countless others.
What did you read growing up?

I read a little bit of everything, but I remember being younger and reading the R.L. Stein Fear Street books. But once I was older, it was romance, romance, romance!
Do you get to pick your covers.
Unfortunately, no. I do get to tell the artist everything I do/don't want, and give final approval if their design.

Which is your favorite of your works?

That'd have to be Killer Kisses, closely rivaled by Guarding Eden. I put a lot of myself in the heroines in these books. I think they turned out great.
Favorite reads?
Anything by Kresley Cole or Lorelei James. I love books with a lot of romance, lust, mystery, suspense, and of course humor.
Where would you like to travel?
London, Scotland, Ireland, Rome, France... I could keep going but it would take all day!

Did you find it hard to get published?

Absolutely. It seems like every publisher had their own list of do's/don't's must and must nots in their guidelines. It seemed like no matter what I wrote, no one wanted it. I'm still fighting to sign with a big name company.
Hobbies.

Wow, people still have those? :)
With a husband and two kids and my writing I dot have a lot of time for hobbies, but when I was younger i loved to  paint and sketch. I'm looking forward to getting back into that. I love to be outside with my family, hiking, fishing, and just being outdoors.

Favorite food?
I have to pick just one? :)
I really love to eat! I think my favorite would be Ben and Jerry's Chunky Monkey Ice cream! I love it!

Have you met any authors?
Face to face? Unfortunately, no. I've talked to several on FB, but never actually met one. :(

Does John read your books? (hubby)
No, my hubby's isn't a big reader, but he does like to be read to. I'm just trying to find the nerve to read one of mine to him. I can write dirty, I jut can't talk it. :)

Who is your biggest advocate?
Next to my husband, it would have to be Kim! She's always pimping me and my books. She's always right there to lend a hand when I need her. She's there for me so much, there's a special dedication to her in my upcoming book, The Stranger Next Door.

What do your kids think of you being an author?

My eight year old is still at the age where she could care less, but my 12 year old is getting to the age where she understands what I'm doing and thinks its pretty cool.

When are you coming to see Kim?
As soon as I can! Money is tight, I think it is for everyone right now. As soon as I can swing it, I'm there! My hubby doesn't fly, so the drive will be hellish, but I the end it'll be worth it!

Margaret Whelehan’s Review of The Right to Remain Mine by Linda Kage

I could not stop reading this book.  The way that the author put the two main characters together is full of chemistry and suspense.
Willow DeVane is a hotshot divorce lawyer who has a judge as a father. She is so used to doing everything for herself that she does not know how to receive help well.  Some of her clients do not like how she defended them; they even threatened her because of it. She also leaves her home open, there is always an unlocked door so that her family can come and go as they please.
Raith Malloy is a hotshot detective who hates lawyers who get criminals to go free when they are guilty.  He is the type of man that protects those dear to him. He will do anything to get criminals behind bars.
We first meet our characters in the court parking lot. There is instantly sparks from both of them. He is trying to give her a parking ticket and she is doing everything she can to get out of it.  Their encounter is defiantly one for the record books.  They both are doing what they think is right in that moment.  However, their attraction is noticed.
They got re introduced to each other at his department. She was bailing out her client while he was just coming on duty.  Willow’s client attacked her because she would not do what he wanted her to do.  Malloy offered to teach her some self-defense so that nothing like what she encountered would happen again. While teaching Willow, the chemistry between her and Malloy, increased ten fold.  It got to the point where they almost slept together.  Malloy actually told her not to touch his condoms, completely ruining the sexual mood between them.
Raith always seemed to find something to get mad a Willow for. Whether it is because she keeps her door open or because of her attitude. He got extremely mad at her and decided that their “just sex” relationship was not worth it; especially because he found out she got pregnant. He thought she deliberately did it to trap him in a relationship.
The way that Malloy proposed to Willow was a little backwards. He said things that should come after he proposed and not before. But since their relationship was anything but normal, it made sense in the end.
All throughout the book it was a battle between the two of them. Who was better then who, and which rules should be made between them.  The chemistry between them was always flowing, even if they were extremely mad at each other. It completely made the whole book extremely interesting to read.
I am extremely glad I got a chance to read this book. the way that the author wrote the book drew me in from the very beginning. This book was a sexy fun romance with the right amount of suspense and comedy as well.

GUEST BLOGGER~ MARGARET WHELEHAN

A Review of The Best Mistake by Linda Kage... GUEST BLOGGER MARGARET WHELEHAN

The concept of the whole book was to tell the truth. From the very beginning, the book was based on one lie. I found it interesting how one lie could lead to heartache in the beginning but in the end, love prevailed.
From the beginning Deri always wanted fit in whether it was with her father’s family or at work, she just wanted to belong.  She started to work as an intern at a company trying to work her way up the ladder.  She wanted to be able to prove to everyone that she was not “the mistake” and that she could make something of herself.
Cole is the CEO of the company where Deri works. His personality is just like every other CEO. He created the company from the ground up and is always looking to make improvements to keep the company in the black.
Deri and Cole met while she was on a ladder fixing a problem. She was trying to hand an extension cord that everyone kept tripping over.  Cole distracted her and she fell and hurt her ankle, and hit her head.  The way that Cole distracted her on the way to the hospital was to keep touching the knot on the back of her head.  After Deri gets discharged she went to settle her bill only to find out that her job already took care of it.
When Deri was home, her stepsister visited, bringing a message. Her sister was making sure that she was not fired from her job and that their grandfather still needed her to be a mole in the company she works for. Without telling her sister, Deri decided not to help out her family after all. She did not want the company she worked for to go under.
Cole was completely attracted to Deri and was always finding ways to see her. Whether it was at work or bringing her flowers at her house.  He was also trying to figure out a way to tell her that he was actually the CEO and not a manager.
When he found out the Deri quit, he wanted to tell her how he really felt.  So, he invited her to a charity event as his date.  At the event Deri’s father was there and made sure that she knew what her job still was.  He wanted her to know that the only way to get approval from her family was do find anything to help her fathers company crush Cole’s company.  Cole found out that Deri was one of the two moles in his company.  He was extremely mad at her and did the whole love her and leave her thing.
Cole had a meeting with Deri’s grandfather and father about the moles in the company. He told her family that he knew since the beginning about Deri’s job. About being the mole. He also told them that since Deri was his fiancé that he would not indicted them as long as they left his company alone.
Cole explained to Deri that he did not want to lose her because of who her family was. He confessed that he was completely in love with her and that because he loved her he was going to leave her family alone. She told him he should have indicted them.
This book is a good short book. The author got her point across from the very beginning.  This book shows that you can always forgive someone if they lie to you.  Love prevails over all, just as long as you love each other enough.

Valentine Cowboys by Cat Johnson

Dakota and Justus became friends in the fifth grade after literally fighting over Melody on the playground on Valentine's Day. There and then the boys made a pact to never let a girl come between their friendship ever.
Fast forward twelve years, Dakota and Justus are hanging out in a local bar when who walks in? Why it's little Melody Zane all grown up!

Dakota's crush on her may have waned a bit but Justus still has a thing for her. When Melody tells them that back in fifth grade she wasn't sure which one she liked better, they are intrigued. Now the twenty-something gorgeous males come up with a way for Melody not to come between their friendship, but still explore that crush that began in elementary school.

Leave it to Cat Johnson to bring a childhood crush into adulthood. I fell in love with Dakota and Justus right on the playground when they not only duke it out for Melody, but even more when they made their life-long pact of friendship. Valentine Cowboys is a very sexy story about a new relationships and exploration. Cat Johnson is a queen at storytelling and I adore her cowboys. I would love to find out what happens to these three in the future!

HAPPY VALENTINE'S DAY

Nocturnal Whispers by Caridad Piñeiro

In his own time, Lord Alec Wright was a bit of a rake. As the second son, the "spare heir" he did as he pleased when he pleased ,to his family's dismay. When Alec needs to repay a gambling debt, he sells an ancient Egyptian artifact, the mummified toddler of a high born Egyptian woman. For this crime, Alec was cursed with prolonged life until he returns the child's mummy to its mother.

Fast forward about a hundred years, Alec believes he has finally found the mummy. The only problem is Dr. Kate Morton, who works for the museum that unknowingly has the mummy in storage. When Kate finds the child's form she is fascinated with it. Something odd happens when she comes in contact with the mummy and when she is introduced to Lord Alec Wright a very strange and attraction happens between the two.

Will the child's mummy be reunited with that of its mother, and if so, will Alec's curse end? This and many more questions are answered in Caridad Pineiro's novella, Nocturnal Whispers. Caridad is a great storyteller and I really enjoyed this novella. I love how Caridad brings cultures and time together with intrigue. I only wish Nocturnal Whispers was longer.

Dire Warning~ A Novella in the Eternal Wolf Clan Series by Stephanie Tyler

In Stephanie Tyler's new Shifter series novella Dire Warning, we are introduced to our Dires Wolves, Alpa Dire Rifter, Vice, Jinx and Stray along with Weres the Dires have "adopted" Cyd and Cain. The Dires have taken it upon themselves to be the protectors between the human and Were population and to make sure that the Shifters remain unknown to humans.

It's Valentine's Day and Dire Alpha,  Rifter and the other Dire Wolves are out because Rifter has an inkling that some trouble is in the air. He walks into the bar Bite to find human and Weres alike mixing, which is not an ideal situation.

Nothing much but a bar fight actually happens while at Bite, but afterwards they find there was a murder of a human female reportedly done by a "werewolf". The murder itself evidently was caught on tape by a paranormal medium, who is now hiding said tape.

Rifter and his Dire Wolves set out to find out who killed the human female, who's ghost has now attached herself to Jinx and Vice. The main suspect being Bill, the medium who was Paula, the murdered female's boss and friend. Or was he?

What a great introduction for a very hot series! Weres are very hot and these bad boy bikers don't disappoint. Stephanie's new and innovative look at the mythical beings captures your attention from the get go and doesn't let go. I hope you all enjoy this great new story in the Eternal Wolf Clan series by Stephanie Tyler as much as I did. Release date for this novella is February 7, 2012.
