Review and Giveaway: The Captain's Bluestocking Mistress by Erica Ridley

Neither pretty nor ugly, spinster Miss Jane Downing thinks herself unmemorable. At the ripe age of four and twenty, Jane has had enough and even though she knows that at her age she is unlikely to marry, she wants to experience passion at least once in her life.

Captain Xavier Grey returned from the atrocities of war a changed man. A shadow of the man he once was, he now prefers to be alone and not  subject others to his poor company. Alas, one woman clearly sees what he does not and still admires the man who returned from war, even when Xavier would like to forget it all.

When after a brief meeting in London, Jane Downing appears on his doorstep, the Captain is baffled why an unaccompanied lady would so blatantly disavow the rules of proper society and leave herself open to ruin. When Jane plainly explains to Xavier her wants and needs, his shock leads to attempting to steer clear of touching her. His decision to remove her from his home is thwarted by falling snow but he knows that being in close quarters with her may lead to trouble. While in each other's company Jane still alludes to her wants while Xavier finds other things to do, like get to know one another better as friends. Can this broken man resist the desire so obviously between them or will Jane succeed in her plan for her ruination? Well you will just have to grab Erica Ridley's The Captain's Bluestocking Mistress to find out!

Once I started this story by Erica Ridley, there was no putting it down. I simply intrigued with the premise and how Jane's dilemma would be solved. Both Jane and Xavier are strong and lovable characters whose personal tales of woe are so engaging. The Captain's Bluestocking Mistress is the second in  the Dukes of War series and it is a great read.

Erica Ridley learned to read when she was three, which was about the same time she
decided to be a writer when she grew up.

Now, Erica is a USA Today best-selling author of historical romance novels. Her latest
series, The Dukes of War, features roguish peers and dashing war heroes who return from
battle only to be thrust into the splendor and madness of Regency England.

When not reading or writing romances, Erica can be found riding camels in Africa, zip-
lining through rainforests in Costa Rica, or getting hopelessly lost in the middle of
Budapest.
