Cowboy Cool (Cowboy Justice Association #5) by Olivia Jaymes

This refreshing and very sexy story brings together n erotic romance writer and a lawman. Cowboy Cool by Olivia Jaymes is a first for me, but I have already added the previous books to my ever-growing TBR pile.

Sheriff Reed Mitchell is taking a well deserved vacation away from his job. Only thing is, he really doesn't want to be away from it and basically had to be forced. On his way down to visit a buddy in Florida, Reed gets asked to check in on a woman who is a very good friend of a few of his favorite people, Ava and Logan  Kaylee Blue is a author who has been receiving some disturbing emails that have shaken her a bit, but she insists that she doesn't need anyone to go out of their way for her. That is out of the question for her bestie, Ava, who is having a difficult pregnancy and worries for her friend. Reed's being sent to her is a God-send.

Single and very attractive, Kaylee Blue writes some pretty steamy stuff, too bad her life doesn't reflect what she writes. When Sheriff Mitchell appears on her doorstep to investigate, she immediately is attracted to the handsome lawman. When Reed finds more than he expected to with an alleged stalker, he temporarily takes up residence in Ms. Blue's home to keep her safe and get to the bottom of the escalating emails. When Kaylee gives Reed one of her books to read he impressed with her writing as well her her sex scenes. When Kaylee expresses her interest in acting out some of those scenes and then-some  Reed goes all in. When those barriers  come toppling down can Reed hide those feelings that come to light? Does he even want to anymore?

Once Kaylee opens up to the possibility of her very fantasies becoming reality with Reed, it's full steam ahead, but now someone wants to hurt her and Reed must protect her and keep a clear head. When the job is all said and done, will Reed be able to just pack up and leave, or will the heat that he and Kaylee create make him want to stay? Oh these questions and so many more are answered by reading Cowboy Cool by Olivia Jaymes.

I love that Ms. Jaymes and picked a romance writer as her heroine. The theme of her being stalked by a disgruntled reader is quite disturbing because it could happen. Both Kaylee and Reed are strong forces of nature thrown together with explosive results. I truly enjoyed this book and am eager to read anything else Olivia Jaymes. Cowboy Cool is a read not to be missed.

The Accidental Countess (Playful Brides #2) by Valerie Bowman

Reading Valerie Bowman's Playful Brides series, is like walking into a menagerie is mishaps with twists and turns that make me shake my head and then finally sign a resounding ahhhhhh. The Accidental Countess is no exception.

After recovering from his injuries from the Napoleonic war, Captain Julian Swift arrives back in England to see the woman he is supposed to be betrothed to. He has not set eyes on Penelope in many years. When he arrives at her home, he is greeted by two of her friends, who tell him that his intended is not at home, she has gone to console a friend.

Lady Cassandra Monroe has already had her share of distressing moments. Cass was supposed to become the Duchess of Claringdon, but she had no intention once her friend Lucy proved to be the perfect match for the Duke. Cass has had feelings for Captain Julian Swift, so much so that when he left for his service to the crown, she promised to write him frequently. Seven years have now passed and Julian is set to return, but his almost betrothed, Penelope, does not want to see him. She has concocted a fictional friend named Patience Banbury, who she uses as an excuse to not be in attendance when Julian arrives.

Once in Julian's company, minus Penelope, Cassandra and Lucy find that seven years is a long time for him to recall the one who has kept him alive with the wit and wisdom of her written words. Lucy is devastated when Julian does not recall the girl who was actually sixteen when he left England. Insanity ensues when Lucy blurts out that Cass is actually Patience Banbury, and so the merry deception and begins, but to what end?

The Accidental Countess by Valerie Bowman is a Shakespearean comedy gone wild. When Lucy throws Cass to the wolves by presenting her as someone she is not, she inevitably begins a game that is more difficult by the hour for Cass to extricate herself from. Lucy sees it as a chance for Julian to become more acquainted with the woman who has been in love with him for ages, but Cass is thrown for a loop pretending to be someone she is not. When Cassandra finds out that Julian, in fact does not wish to marry Penelope, she thinks all the deception is for naught and attempts to find a way out of Lucy's maniacal plan before it's too late.

Cassandra and Julian are two of my favorite characters in this series. Throughout the entire tale, Julian is the embodiment of the perfect gentleman. He wants to properly end things with Pen before he seeks out the lady who kept him alive with her letters. Cassandra is both a mess and an anomaly when posing as Patience. She gains a confidence she didn't have in the past and this makes her character all the more interesting. Valerie Bowman has made her niche as one of my favorite authors with The Accidental Countess firmly cementing her to the top of my "to be read" list. I hope you enjoy The Accidental Countess by Valerie Bowman as much as I did, it's a tale not to be missed.

Only Enchanting (The Survivors' Club #4) by Mary Balogh

The Survivor's Club consists of seven friends who were all wounded in one way or another during the Napoleonic wars. Once a year they gather to check in on one another and to forge forward after their losses. Traditionally they all met at Penderris Hall in Cornwall, but due to Survivor, Vincent's wife having just given birth, the reunion takes place in his ancestral home Middlebury Park.

Flavian, Viscount Ponsonby suffered from a gunshot to the head and other injuries from falling from his horse and nearly being trampled. His recovery was a long and difficult one with his loved ones believing he was truly mad. When his betrothed left him for his one-time best friend, it tore his heart out and drove him to the brink. He still has his moments and cannot remember crucial parts of his past, when his older brother was still alive and was betrothed to Velma from birth. When it became evident that his brother would not live long, Velma sought out Flavian instead.

Agnes Keeping has been a widow for some time now. At the age of twenty-six, she is hardly an old biddy, but she is no great beauty either. When Viscount Ponsonby danced with her at a ball in her friend's home some months ago, she found herself quite taken with the man. Maybe she didn't know any better, he married life was comforting if not exciting and instead of love, there was respect. Agnes has never known great passion, but those few moments dancing in Flavian's arms were as close as she had ever come.

When Agnes is reacquainted with the Viscount, a very nontraditional courtship is about to begin. Still running from his past, Flavian without even really knowing himself, becomes more and more attached to the widow and knowing that she would never go to bed without the benefit of marriage, continuously asks Agnes to marry him, until he wears her down. Agnes thinks passion is wrong, it ruins lives, but Flavian sets out to show her all she was missing.

Back in London, after the quick wedding, Agnes discovers that a widowed Velma still has her heart set on Flavian. Realizing that she was married to enact revenge on his family, Agnes will either fight or flee for the unconventional relationship.

I am an avid fan of Mary Balogh's Survivor's Club and this one is no exception with it's fair share of heartache and misunderstandings. Flavian's character has always stood out, waiting for his day in the sun, and finally it's here. There is no one more perfect for the role of his heroine than Agnes Keeping. She is independent and intelligent as well as strong-willed and endearing. Never did she think that her dreams could actually come to pass , until Viscount Ponsonby appears once again on horseback. The give and take of Only Enchanting by Mary Balogh is wonderful and it is a lovely continuation of one of my favorite series.

The Texan's Christmas by Tanya Michaels

Nicole Bennett has decided to take her life into her own hands. She has gone through IVF (In Vitro  Fertilization) to have the one thing she knew she always wanted, even without benefit of a partner in her life, a baby. Nicole has a good job with a wonderful boss and a bright future ahead of her. Only problem now is, Nicole is the go-between with business between Adele and  The Baron family. Adele is the mother who walked out on the Baron children after her serious bout of depression, leaving her family when they were so young and in need of a mother. The Baron siblings have a notion that Adele is their mother and it puts Nicole in a precarious situation.

Daniel Baron has decided to leave the rodeo circuit for good. What he will do with the rest of his life is still in the air. Relationship shy, when he connects with Nicole, he begins to feel for her things he never thought possible. Then Nicole tells him that she is having a baby and Daniel almost heads for the hills. His family upbringing has made him doubt he could ever be a father, so when faced with the amazing Nicole, he doesn't know what to do.

The Texan's Christmas Baby by Tanya Michaels is the first Texas Rodeo Barons book I have had the pleasure of reading. I found it very easy to follow and enjoy the entire theme and would love to go back and read the previous tales leading up to this one. Nicole is a character I admire so much for her convictions. It's very hard to go it all alone, but her determination is something else. Daniel is a wonderful character, a gentleman who is understanding  and a truly good person. He only has to come to terms with his misgivings, and that is what this book is all about.

GUEST REVIEW OF DESIREE HOLT'S ~EYES OF THE WOLF~

Eyes Of The Wolf
A Red Hot Treats Story
 by Desiree Holt

Jamie Dalton loves to read. That makes her job as a librarian perfect for her. From the age of nine, she wrote stories about ghosts, goblins and all sorts of creatures. As she grew older, she continued to write these stories but they became a little more erotic. Feeling they were not very good, she never tried to publish them. Jamie was also single and lives alone with her black cat ,Mischief in her deceased grandparent's house. She was never very good with the opposite sex and had a few short relationships, they never worked out. Her favorite holiday was Halloween. She loved it more than Christmas. Coming home from candy shopping, she meets her sexy, hot next door neighbor Miko Volka, Mike as he likes to be called. Jamie is instantly attracted to him and very turned on too.

Mike Volka is over six feet tall with a lean body of a runner. He is an architect, and he has a secret. Mike Volka is a shapeshifter. He can turn into a wolf any time he wants to, not just during a full moon. Mike's parents were killed by marauders from a renegade pack. He escaped before they came after him. As a result, he was without a pack. During a conversation with his father before he was killed, Mike was told the story about a book that would be able to answer any questions about his family, his pack that he might need answered. His search for this book leads him to Jamie.

Unknown to Jamie, she has found the book that Mike was looking for. She finds out a great deal of information about werewolves, including that they mate for life and can mate with humans. They both have strong feelings for each other. Mike realizes that Jamie is his mate and decides to take the chance to reveal his true nature to Jamie. Jamie does not freak out. They reveal their true feelings for each other and Mike now has the book to begin his search for his pack.

I enjoyed this novella by Desiree Holt. She is a great storyteller. At first Mike was only after the book, but after he meets Jamie he is lost. The sex is steamy and makes you want to get a shapeshifter of your own. This was another great story by Desiree Holt and I highly recommend it.

Guest Review of RED, WHITE AND SCREWED by HOLLY BUSH

Red, White and Screwed
By Holly Bush

"I got behind a buggy." This almost made Glenda Nelson who works for the Lancaster County Democratic Committee late for the dedication of the mural they helped sponsor late. Glenda is forty six, had an ugly divorce, and has two teenage children, Sylvia and Frank.  She works for Melvin who is constantly stressed and lives on a diet of Rolaids. Glenda's ex husband is Grant Nelson who also happens to be a Pennsylvania State representative. He is also a serial cheater. As a matter of fact, he is currently married to one of his many mistresses. Melvin and Glenda are working for John Marshall, a democrat they hope to get into the U.S. Senate. Marshall is the consummate family man, a sterling choice for the Senate.

Christopher Goodwich is an artist who was commissioned to paint a thirty foot mural of a Lancaster County Revolutionary War battle. He also happens to come from a rich, politically active family. Glenda and Christopher meet during the dedication. During the reception, Melvin and Glenda find out that their candidate, the good family man has been having an affair with a neighbor for the past twelve years. Now they needed to find a new candidate.

Glenda has many obstacles to deal with, Her father has Alzheimer's disease, her kids are having trouble dealing with the lack of attention by their father, she blames herself for her divorce from Grant, they need to find a new candidate to represent Pennsylvania in the Democratic Senate race and finally, what to do about her growing attraction to Christopher Goodwich. One night, she has had all she can handle, she calls a psychologist, makes an appointment to meet and goes about trying to get her life back together. With the love of her family, friends and Chris, Glenda is able to get her life back on track and find some happiness.

I really enjoyed this book. Holly Bush took events that have happened numerous times in the political world and showed the impact that it has on all of the people involved in the story. I loved Glenda's character. She is an older woman with teenage children and has a lot to deal with as a working single Mom, including having to cope with a parent going through the horrible disease of Alzheimer's. Another topic Ms Bush focused on was the fact that sometimes we need a little extra help and that it is ok to seek it professionally. Christopher was a doll, a guy every women would love to meet. He was patient and supportive of Glenda through all of her issues. Ms Bush's secondary characters made the story interesting as well. This story made me laugh and cry too. I highly recommend this book and can't wait for her next contemporary romance. I give this book five Moons
