Mari Carr & Lexxie Couper ~Misplaced Princess~ Foreign Affairs Book 1

I love the premise of these books.  This series of books revolves around people who continually cross international wires to forge some red hot foreign affairs.
In Misplaced Princess and Misplaced Cowboy, a couple meet online. When they agree to meet in person, they screw up their flight plans. Dylan, an Aussie stockman, flies to New York City to meet Annie Prince, who mistakenly thinks they’re meeting in Sydney. While in NYC, Dylan meets and falls in love with Monet, Annie’s best friend. Hunter, Dylan’s twin brother, is in Sydney with Annie arrives there unexpectedly. He takes her back to Farpoint Creek cattle station to wait for Dylan to return home. A series of unfortunate events occur to keep Dylan from going back to Australia. In the meantime, Dylan and Monet fall in love while more than sparks fly between Hunter and Annie. The couples soon learn that best laid plans of mice and men often go astray…

In Misplaced Lessons and Misplaced Hands, Miss Amelia (Amy) Wesson, the young lady hired to teach the children of Farpoint Creek, crosses a few wires of her own. While the Australian Outback is the only home she’s ever known, that doesn’t mean her heart hasn’t always longed for big city life in America. She forms an online friendship with Harper, an elementary teacher from Chicago, and the two ladies decide to swap homes/lives for two weeks. Harper will take over Amy’s teaching and Amy will travel to Chicago during Harper’s spring break. Trouble, however, comes in the form of Andrew, Harper’s big brother and two sexy as sin jackaroos, Marc and Keith. Will the ladies ever make their way back to their normal lives or will they discover home is not where their hearts lie?

Misplaced Princess is Annie and Hunter’s book.  I have to say, combining the talents of Mari Carr and Lexxie Couper was absolute genius!!  This book made me want to take drop everything and take a trip to Australia to find my own hunky stockman.  It was smart and fun and full of great sex, along with tender moments and lots of humor. What's not to love?  I was sitting on the edge of my seat wondering what would happen when Dylan returned home, and also seeing if Annie and Hunter would end up going for it.  A definite MUST READ!!  I can’t wait for the next one in this series!

The Tethered Arms ~Apt.7A~ by Sahara Kelly

Talented 40-something photographer, Adele Martin, has kept her longing for model Brian Macmillan for some time. Not just for the fact that she feels it would be unprofessional to pursue him, she feels she is way to old for the gorgeous cover model.

Brian Macmillan has had it hard for the beautiful Adele and never has he given her age a thought. There is much more to Brian than meets the eye. He is much more than just the pretty face that graces Adele's professional work.

When Adele's female model tanks on her for a photo shoot, she's frantic because she won't make her deadline. That is until Brian suggests that Adele be the model. After much coaxing, Adele gives in to the suggestion and much to her surprise, she gives in to so much more with Brian.

No matter how hot and perfect the relationship becomes, Adele has that voice inside of her that tells her that being older than Brian will only be a pitfall. She can't seem to get over her personal issues even when Brian continually tries to steer her away from those thoughts.

Ok, now I can actually relate to this story. I am a photographer and I am over 40. That's where the similarities end though. I have to admit that I so completely wanted to beat Adele with a flogger. Thirty-something Brian is not only good looks, but a very smart and successful businessman as well. Adele's insecurities threaten her very existence and one can but wonder if Brian will actually get through or not. Aside from this being one very frustrating story, it's also my favorite out of Sahara's Tethered Arms series. The woman is a genius with these stories and you will have to read them to see why. Sahara is unconventional, to say the least, and I had to ponder for days over what I would actually say about this story... Curious? Good!!! Read The Tethered Arms Series and be as surprised as I was...

Touche Sahara Kelly!

Apartment 6C ~The Tethered Arms Book 2~ by Sahara Kelly

Yes.. odd that I am reviewing the 2nd novella first, since I just finished it moments ago,and thought it was brilliant, I had to share!

Adam is a grade school teacher married to Laura,a lawyer, for the past five years. Things are beginning to become a little ho-hum in the bedroom. Although they love each other immensely, their lives have become utterly routine..

That is until Laura discovers that Adam has been withholding from her a side of himself he locked away when they became a couple. Adam was a Dom, and quite accomplished at it as well.
Can high-powered attorney Laura give her husband what he needs. Can she let go and become the sexual submissive that Adam as never even attempted to draw out of her? Silly people... you must read this one to find out!!!

Oh wow, I really enjoyed this one and found it inspiring. Sahara is no holds barred. Sometimes I have to admit that when I read a novella, afterward I feel cheated, that something was lacking. This is definitely not the case with these Tethered Arms stories. I am eager to read the next 2 and hope that Sahara has more planned.

The Tethered Arms~ Apt.4B ~ by Sahara Kelly

~KIMBERLY~

Eve Bentley is not a morning person... When there's a knock on her door one morning, she could never have imagined handsome new neighbor Simon Austen to be at her doorstep with an interesting package in hand.

When Simon sees scruffy looking Eve, he is instantly attracted to the sleepy-eyed woman. The two being a hot and heavy affair, that is so hot, they agree to re-examine the relationship in six months time. Where will they be in six months? Read Apartment 4B and find out?

What a great story. Not very heavy on the BDSM... just a bit of a dabble. The novella is well told and the characters are so good together. Both Eve and Austen have been single for several years and relationship wary. I really enjoy the direction the Tethered Arms books are going and I think you will too. Sahara Kelly has a knack for romance and a great sense of humor. Loved this!!!

BLOGGING & CONTEST WITH GENEVIEVE GRAHAM

Hi Genevieve!!! Welcome to Book Obsessed Chicks. So happy to have you visit the blog. First I wanted to say that your first book Under the Same Sky moved me so completely that I have been recommending it to everyone I know.  Tell us a bit about yourself… and a bit about Sound of the Heart.

Hi Kim! I love being here with you. And I’m so, so glad Under the Same Sky moved you. That book was the first thing I’d ever written, and it was a toughie. A lot of emotional and violent scenes, but also a lot of research. Don’t get me wrong - I loved every second of it. But if I touched your heart, I did what ever author dreams of doing, so thanks for telling me!

1. How did the idea of your books come to you?
The stories come to me when the characters decide to tell them. I don’t mean to sound evasive, but the truth is I have no idea where the ideas come from. Sure, I mull things around in my mind, but when it comes down to it, I write what the characters tell me. So how do the characters come to me? I have no idea about that, either, but I know if I sit quietly by myself, letting my mind drift, welcoming in thoughts, I’ll feel them there, gently pushing me, showing me which direction to go. I love that. It’s like meditation, I guess, and once the words start, it’s hard to slow down!

2. What was the Feedback about the cutting edge subject matters in both books?
Is that an elephant in the room? Let’s just call a spade a spade: folks, she’s asking about the violence against women (and children) which happened in the books.

When the first book came out I worried about how it might be received, but I needn’t have been concerned. I would say one in ten readers has objected, and they are vehement in their objections. Some say I could have written the story without going into such detail, or without so much violence. A couple even suggested that authors tend to use rape as a kind of “plot vehicle.”

I wholeheartedly disagree (though everyone is - of course - entitled to their opinion). I’ve never claimed to write sweet and sugary romances. My books explore the reality of history, and those days weren’t all made up of salons and powdered wigs. Rape was practically an every day threat back then, as was slavery. Women had no rights, and there were no real laws to control slavery. Did you know hundreds of thousands of whites (men and women) were sent to the colonies as slaves from the 1600s on? I didn’t know that until I did the research, and do you think I could simply ignore that fact? No way!

90% of readers loved the books regardless of those subjects. Those were the readers who understood the importance of writing and reading history as it really was. I don’t pull punches, and if you really want to know what I learned while I researched for the books, you’d better be prepared for ugly truths!

3. Who are your favorite characters and why?
You mean in my stories, right? Well, I love all my main characters for different reasons. I’ve been in all their heads, so I see them all for what they are. But if I had to pick a favourite it’d be Dougal. While Maggie and Andrew made me yearn, feel a need so strong for each other it consumed them, Dougal made me laugh. Glenna is feisty and smart and able to completely bewitch Dougal, who has never taken love seriously before meeting her. I love his reaction to her, his dry humour, his love of life, his loyalty, and above all, his refusal to give up.

4. When did you become a writer?
Just after I turned 42. I’d read Diana Gabaldon’s “Outlander” series four times, then listened to the audio another three times, then read the “Into the Wilderness” series by Sara Donati, then books by Penelope Williamson and Jennifer Roberson … and I finally decided it was time to write my own story. It actually came as a surprise to me. I’d never planned to be an author, but I sure am loving it. I also run an editing business.

5. Who are your heroes? Mentors?
Sounds schmaltzy, maybe, but I’d put my husband right up there. He’s brave and tough and loyal, not to mention incredibly smart, and he has put up with way more than he should have had to. I’d like to grow up and be like him (except he’s younger than I am).

My first writing mentor was author Rona Altrows, who won the W.O. Mitchell Award for her book, “A Run On Hose.” I met her at a free Mentorship programme through the Calgary Libraries - I had to submit twenty-five pages then wait for a critique. I was so so so scared. I’d never let anyone outside my little circle see what I wrote. But Rona was amazing. She sat me down for an hour and helped me see the light about what I was doing, and what I could do. We’ve become great friends since then.

My literary agent, Jacques de Spoelberch, is also a mentor for me. Not only does he teach me about the ins and outs of publishing, he is an amazing editor. He demands excellence from me, and that is so important when I’m rewriting a novel’s ending for the third time!

6. Was it difficult for you to get published?
To get published … no. To get an agent? omg Yes. I remember receiving over seventy rejections, but I never gave up. I joined online writing groups and learned new lessons every day about shaping a story into something people would want to read. I soaked it in like a sponge, and when a friend recommended her agent to me, I was ready for him.

7. How many more books are planned in this series?
I’ve written the third, “Out of the Shadows,” which revolves around Adelaide, who is Maggie’s sister. All the books are stand alone, though. Adelaide has a VERY YUMMY hero in her book, lucky girl.

I’m working on book #4, which is about Janet MacLeod, one of the group of travelers who came from Scotland in the first book. She’s not related, but too many readers wanted to know more. People are now requesting a reunion book of the two brothers, and I’m sorely tempted ...

8. Who are your favorite authors/reads?
Diana Gabaldon, Sara Donati, Penelope Williamson, Jennifer Roberson, Kaki Warner, Joanna Bourne … All more “historical Adventures” rather than textbook “romances,” in my humble opinion.

9. Hobbies?
I don’t really have any these days. Too busy writing and editing. Plus we have two teenage girls, so they keep us hopping. We’re a movie-loving family, so we often play videos (lately we’ve been having a series-a-thon, re-watching “Lord of the Rings,” “Star Wars,” “Harry Potter,” and now “Spiderman.”

10. Do you use an inspiration board for your characters? Who do you picture as your characters?
I don’t have an inspiration board (actually not sure what that is!), but I do “adopt” actors to help me fill in details about my heroes. I like to emulate their gestures and expressions, and if I watch enough of their interviews and movies I can see them clearly enough for the situations I put them in. For Dougal I used Gerard Butler for his accent and attitude, but for looks I used Josh Holloway, an actor from the tv series, “Lost.” I was actually shocked to see how similar the two actually look!

For “Under the Same Sky” I used Colin Farrell from “The New World”.

In “Out of the Shadows” I studied Garret Hedlund.

I'll give you a little insight into why I chose these cds as my prize - I'm NOT saying Sound of the Heart is about relaxing … considering the wild adventures Dougal's in for, I doubt he was too relaxed! But Dougal has a gift, similar to his brother's gift. He can relax his mind and hear the thoughts of other men, but he can also sink into his thoughts and hear the sounds and voices of his loved ones as if they were right there with him. These cds were created to help you escape the stress and craziness of your days. Grab a cup of tea or glass of wine (your preference!), light a candle, maybe slip in to a bubblebath, and listen to the sound of your heart.

JENN FRASER'S REVIEW OF SWEET ADDICTION BY MAYA BANKS

In Maya Banks’ 6th installment in her Sweet series , we finally get Cole’s story.  Followers of the series will be happy he gets his day in the sun, but this can absolutely be read as a standalone.
Cole Madison is a successful businessman and regular fixture as a Dom at The House, an exclusive BDSM club.  Cole’s one regret is leaving his first love and submissive partner, Ren Michael.  It’s been ten years and the pain doesn’t seem to have gotten easier to bear.  Then, a chance meeting brings Ren back into his sights.  In the time they’ve spent apart, Ren thinks she’s moved on.  She’s currently in a very fulfilling 24/7 D/s relationship with Lucas Holt.  Lucas is a strict, but loving Dom who shares a special connection with Ren.  He knows her inside and out and can tell that her meeting with Cole has shaken her to the core, making her question if she’s still in love with her former Dom.  He decides to give her a gift: two weeks back with Cole, after which she can decide to stay with him or come back to Lucas.  What unfolds is a compelling and emotional journey for Ren and Cole.  Can he let her go after two weeks of paradise?
I love Maya Banks’ Sweet series.  I have my favorites, and this installment is in the top two for me.   I found myself falling for Lucas’ sweet and loving dominance, knowing this was supposed to be about Ren and Cole’s reunion.  I felt anxious for him, knowing he was going to have his heart broken.  And then I found the same feelings for Cole as he gives everything he has to make Ren understand they were meant to be together.  What a rollercoaster of emotion!  The BDSM is on the moderate level, but with the understanding that these are 24/7 D/s relationships.  The sex is absolutely smoking hot: unique scenarios, an m/m/m/f scene (Maya’s specialty J), plenty of kinky D/s play.  The character development was excellent, and by the end I was a mess not knowing how it would all play out.  Who will be left out in the cold?    Can Ren choose?  Very sweet and satisfying angst.  I highly recommend this read for fans of the series, Maya Banks,  and new readers who want to be introduced to a BDSM world full of hot sex and genuine emotion.

~ DESIRE~ A Poem by Jenn Fraser

Desire

Both a blessing and a curse.
My heart, an empty vessel  of need, forever unfulfilled.
Without, a barren wasteland of indifference.
I long to be drenched in the waters of my love, each undulating wave a caress upon my soul,
each droplet a kiss beyond measure.
Though I go thirsty and parched in the light of day,
evening’s shroud, the sleep of dreams, brings you to me.
I revel in that far off land, that paradise of ocean blue, till I wake… unappeased, alone.
In that moment, I am bereft.
A single tear slides down my face and I rise to greet the dawn.
I have lost my soul to the night.
And am glad of it.
