THE CASH BROTHERS, A Great New Series by Author Marin Thomas

So, if you have perused my blog or my Facebook wall at all, you know that I LOVE cowboys. I love from the most heated, sexy romance book to a light but inspiring one. My only prerequisite is that it has a good story. Yes, I have put books down that I did not like, go ahead, gasp. I honestly had never picked up a Harlequin Romance until the RWA in NYC in 2011, but since then, I must say that I will never knock a Harlequin novel again. Yes, some of them have awful titles and odd-looking covers, but it's the blurb on the back of the book that sucks me in, as these two books by author Marin Thomas did to me. The newest series, The Cash Brothers series has a pretty insane premise.

Aimee Cash liked cowboys... a lot. So much so, that she has six baby boys with six different cowboys who either couldn't or wouldn't stick around to be fathers to their sons. She also had a lovely daughter named Dixie Aimee also wasn't much of mother material, skipping out on her toddlers consistently. That's not even the odd part, Aimee Cash had a penchant for naming her baby boys after famous country singers, hence leaving her off-spring to be ridiculed throughout their lives. Adults now, the first Cash Brothers book by Marin Thomas is The Cowboy Next Door.

Johnny Cash has always been the center of the Cash family. He basically sacrificed most of himself to keep his brothers and sister together, safe and sound. Troubled times have fallen upon the Cash family, but Johnny doesn't want to burden his siblings. The family home and business are in financial trouble and Johnny needs a way to fix it fast.

Shannon Douglas is self reliant and confident. I guess one would have to be if one is a female bull rider. Raised by her father along with her brothers, from an early age Shannon took after her brothers in all things. She didn't know any other way since there was no woman around. Shannon had her best friend Dixie Cash and she also had the Cash family to watch out for her, especially Johnny.

All grown up now Shannon Douglas is taking on the rodeo world as a star bull rider with an awesome sponsorship and a so-called bull rider boyfriend in C.J. Rodriguez. Hmmm is this womanizing cowboy really her boyfriend? When Johnny Cash shows up at the rodeo and sees his sister's best friend, something is different. Johnny is attracted to this girl, nine years his junior  and fight as he may like to, that attraction doesn't want to go away. Shannon has always had a crush on Johnny, who wouldn't? This handsome cowboy is a good man and has always been, but his hangup about his age difference could get the best of both of them. Oh did I mention that Johnny has just gotten a job working for Shannon's dad? That could really throw a wrench into the fan.

When Shannon gets thrown at a rodeo and really hurts herself, Johnny is right there to help out. Shannon is determined to to get right back on a bull, even to her detriment and having Johnny in her corner when everyone else wants her to hang up for hat would really be an awesome thing. Wondering if Johnny and Shannon can get over their issues long enough to notice what's right in front of them both is half the battle in The Cowboy Next Door by Marin Thomas.

And so begins my obsession with the Cash Brothers. Thank you Marin Thomas for such a great story. When I thought of a female bull rider, it was of a not very feminine woman, but Marin has completely scoffed that thought. Even the silly fact that all the Cash brothers are named after country singers only adds to the entire scheme of things when the great story comes into play. Marin Thomas knows just how to tug at hearts with her knack for storytelling and this reviewer finds it hard to put the book down until the last page. I have fallen for the Cash family with their quirky personalities and their ease with one another. The strong female characters make for my kind of read. I recommend Marin Thomas' The Cowboy Next Door to all. Give the Cash Brothers a try, I think you'll be hooked!

Ok, so the cover might fool you. but the blurb definitely say it all. I find that I have to put my cover feelings aside when I see this one because Twins Under The Christmas Tree by Marin Thomas is so good.

Meet Conway Twitty Cash, one of those infamous Cash Brothers and the so-called handsomest of the bunch. Conway has women falling at his feet and hardly ever says no..... unless the lady in question has kids or wants them in the future because Conway has sworn off being a daddy...ever, but he is in search of "the one".

Isadora Lopez hasn't had a stellar life so far, but the one thing, or should I say two things she definitely got right are her handsome little devil twin 4 year old sons, Javier and Miguel. Single mom Isi is all alone in the world with her sons since the father of the boys has basically denied them. Said deadbeat and rodeo cowboy  never told Isi he was already married. Isi is one determined lady, a hard worker, college student and mom. She's also been Conway's "therapist" for the past few years as Conway frequents the establishment Isi waitresses at. Attracted to her at first, Conway quashed that any inkling of a relationship when he found out Isi was the mom of twins, but they have been constant friends. Isi always hears about Conway's antics with the female population in search of his perfect mate, doling out advice when necessary.

One evening trouble comes to the Border Town Bar and Grill when an insistent wannabe girlfriend seeks Conway out and ends up hurting Isi in the melee. To make up for Isi's injury and her subsequent loss of a babysitter, Conway offers to step in as sitter to the twins. Reluctant but in need, Isi accepts since she has to waitress as well as work towards her impending December graduation. Low and behold, the anti children cowboy Conway likes the boys and they adore him. The closer Conway gets to the boys the closer he becomes to Isi, but it isn't what he wants. In a constant stupor of denial, Conway can't see what's right in front of his face. Even with his ease with taking care of the boys and his still being attracted to Isi, Conway still thinks "the one" is still out there, but it's not the pretty mom of twin boys he can't get out of his mind.

Twins Under The Christmas Tree by Marin Thomas is a fabulous story. Conway really is a great guy, even with his rule of not dating women with kids. He has his reasons though they are almost a cloud hanging over his head. Isi is the ultimate female character, she wants for nothing and works for everything she has. She is real and so deserving of so much more. She strives everyday to make a better life for her and her beloved sons.  She knows Conway would is the perfect man for her, if only the oblivious man would wake up.
Twins Under the Christmas Tree by Marin Thomas is a great read for anytime of the year. It tugs at your heartstrings and even even extracts some tears. I highly recommend this book. I enjoyed it and know you will as well.

Eva Gordon's ~ Lycan Gladiator ~ Reviewed by Michelle Boone

5 out of 5 Stars

When Ulric, a lycan gladiator, meets a mysterious human woman with green eyes, he’s drawn to her fiery beauty, enraptured by her alluring aroma. Unfortunately, Ulric and the beauty are slaves. To make matters worse, he can mate only with someone marked with the sign of the wolf.

Cassia’s hidden wolf mark burns in the presence of the handsome gladiator. While her heart yearns to be near Ulric, logic warns her against it—having a slave as a mate is against the lycan society’s plans for her.

In spite of the lycan society’s rules and the emperor’s brutal plots, their love grows … but their passion just may cost them their lives

Eva Gordon has done it again. I was lucky enough to have read her book Apocalyptic Moon, which I’m still waiting for the next installment of, and loved every page of that book. When I was given Lycan Gladiator by her to read and review, I couldn’t wait to sink into this new and exciting world she had created.
She gives such detailed descriptions without making the reader want to say hurry up all ready lol. I could imagine the clothing, to the surrounding, right down to the last detail and was completely enthralled the entire time. In this paranormal story Ms Gordon takes you back to the Roman times and gives a twist to the Gladiator games where there can be only one winner. Only instead of throwing a lion in to fight a man, they have a lycan who defeats his opponents to save his fellow pack members who are also being held captives. Her fight scenes are not for the faint of heart. They are graphic, but they make the book so much better in my opinion. She doesn’t fill the pages with unnecessary filler, or fluff. Each page you read keeps you interested and on the edge of your seat and wanting or needing to read more until you’ve reached the end.
And last but definitely not least, the thing that makes all paranormal romances a good read in my opinion is the love scenes. Again, Ms Gordon doesn’t let us readers down. She gave us the sweet, bone melting, sensual love making that Cassia needed while still giving Ulric the fulfilling any Alpha Lycan needed as well. The way she seamlessly blended the sweet Cassia and rough-tough-hardened Ulric made this a truly wonderful read to me.

Guest Reviewer ~ Pat Sheppard's ~ Review of GUARDIAN REDEEMED BY P.A. DEPAUL

Heaven Mistrusts Him. Demons Fear Him.

Only One Woman Will Love Him.

Kaiden, a Security Guardian in Archangel Michael’s army has never really been accepted—he’s always on the outside looking in and he prefers it that way. Channeling his rage and injustice at life (and afterlife), he and his team ruthlessly track down demons on Earth and annihilate them from existence. When he learns that Zarok, a demon he sent back to Hell three hundred years ago has resurfaced, Kaiden vows to vanquish the demon for good. His mission becomes complicated when a beautiful human soldier witnesses a massacre by Zarok and gains the demon’s attention.

Miranda “Randi” Elon, a wounded war veteran, returns home from Iraq only to watch a deranged killer slay her two physical therapists while she stands trapped in the shadows. No sooner has the murderer left when Kaiden shows up with his exotic good looks and bullying demands. She has to decide if she can trust Kaiden to protect her or listen to the voice in her head telling her he’s more than what he seems.

Kaiden must figure out how to keep the existence of Guardians and demons a secret while also trying to contain his attraction for her because relationships between Guardians and humans are forbidden. But when Zarok targets Randi as his next victim, is his willingness to break every rule enough to save her in time?

Author - P.A. DePaul

Therapy is good for the soul!!

Well at least it was until Randi witnessed the death of two of her therapists.  Who knew you could grow body parts once they were hacked off.  Was she really seeing what she thought she did?  Or was she having delusions from the drugs she was taking for the gun shots she had received in Iraq?  Randi had returned home to live a normal life after spending nearly ten years in the army.  Who knew normal for her home town had been redefined while she was away.  Scared stupid after witnessing what she had she got home only hours later to return back to the center to reaffirm what she had seen and call for help.  Kaiden was tired of going after little guppy demons for sport.  He figured it was his punishment for yet another thing he had done to piss somebody off.  Then he is told to go to the rehabilitation center.  Zarok is back.  Kaiden had sent Zarok to hell over three hundred years ago instead of the forever pit by mistake and now Zarok was back to torment him.  While he and his team is there, the one and only witness returns to the scene.  How stupid can she be to return and be threatened by Zarok?  And how lucky can he be that he did not have to go looking for her and now he had to keep her beside him in order to protect her.  Then all hell breaks loose.  That is in his pants and in his heart.  Emotions long gone are now surfacing.  God he wanted to punch her minute and fuck her the next.  Spitfire, that; what he named this woman who apparently will be both his savior and his destroyer.  Can you say soul mate and multiple orgasms?

I give the book four stars.  It had a very good story line and the sexual component was entered into the book at the right moment.  Any earlier and it would have taken away from the story.

Forsaken~ ( Beartooth, Montana Series from HQN Book 3 ) By B.J. DANIELS

A fan of the Beartooth, Montana series from day one I again was beyond happy to have a chance to read the third installment, FORSAKEN before its release date. FORSAKEN by the ultra gifted B.J. Daniels  grabs the reader's attention from the first paragraph with her knack for suspense and keeps the reader enveloped in her mystery until the very end.

Bentley Jamison is the new kid on the block. The handsome lawyer from back East comes to the West as Deputy Sheriff for the town. Sheriff Frank Curry is away to see the daughter who was  institutionalized for trying  to kill her own him. While Curry is away tragedy strikes. From out of the mountains races sheep rancher, Maddie Connor's young tender Dewey, terrified out of his mind about what just happened up in the mountains, where he and sheep herder, Branch, we tending Maddie's flock. The boy appears with blood on him and says he can't recall all that happened.

Maddie Curry is the last of a dying breed of sheep ranchers Even after she loses her husband and son in an avalanche she, continues what she believes is her legacy, but with her dear friend and sheep herder, Branch missing and possibly dead, Maddie knows her days as a rancher are numbered. When she meets Deputy Sheriff Brantley Jamison she scoffs at him, thinking that because he isn't from the area that he is completely out of his element. The two set off on a difficult trek into the mountains with a bad snowstorm nipping at their heels to find Branch and see to Maddie's flock. Maddie soon finds herself wrong about the handsome Deputy and at the same time attracted to him during their misadventure.

In the meantime, back in town, store owner Nettie Benton, who has been in love with Frank Curry for years, still finds herself being pushed away by the love of her life and she's finds it becoming tiresome.  When bad boy of old, J.D. West comes back to town after a very long sabbatical, Sheriff Curry finds the need to watch his back because J.D. has eyes for Nettie. When J.D. saves Nettie's life after she is almost run down by someone from Frank's past, J.D. finds himself as savior to Nettie and possible paramour.

While Deputy Jamison and Maddie try to solve the mystery up in the snowy mountains, Sheriff Curry deals with his own issues. When the past becomes a danger to his future Frank needs to decide what is more important, settling scores or his relationship. Jamison has a similar dilemma with the refreshing yet stubborn widow. Maddie and Brantley still dwell on their pasts, but their emerging feelings for one another can overcome anything if they can just get through the storm.

I honestly don't know how this woman does it. B.J. Daniels can write several stories going on at the same time and keeps the reader enthralled with it all. There is a lot of nail-biting and gasping that goes on from cover to cover. So much more happens on in FORSAKEN that I can't even begin to  tell you about because I don't want to give anything away. Just know this, FORSAKEN by B.J. Daniels,  is well worth picking up.  Ms. Daniels to me is a Goddess of Romantic Suspense and I tip my hat to her for giving us another well written and intriguing saga.  In addition, the romance that occurs between these mostly, what are considered middle aged men and women are so refreshing, they make me smile from ear to ear. Finally, someone who understands that not just twenty somethings can have gripping romantic interludes and knows that love can be found at any age!  Now if she will only give my two favorite characters their day in the sun, I will be a very content reader, until then, I guess my nails will be nubs. Pick up your copy of FORSAKEN by B.J. Daniels when it releases on September 24th and if you haven't read the first two books in the Beartooth Montana series, UNFORGIVEN and REDEMPTION, or the Prequel to the series, FALLEN, you got your work cut out for you because I recommend them all highly!

ONE OF MY FAVORITE BOOKS BY ONE OF MY FAVORITE AUTHORS ~ KAT MARTIN ~AGAINST THE MARK

Comment to win a copy of Against the Mark by Kat Martin.

The perfect murder is a work of art ...

In one catastrophic instant, Haley Warren's estranged father was taken from her. She never got the chance to reconnect with him, so now she's doing it the only way she's got left: by proving the explosion that killed him was no accident.

When Tyler Brodie, the provocative and handsome P.I. hired by Haley, discovers that her father was investigating a suspected art theft, he knows his death is no coincidence. After all, tens of millions of dollars worth of stolen art could motivate a thief to go to any lengths including getting rid of anyone poking around where they don't belong.

As Haley and Ty get closer to the truth, the truth gets ugly: Did Haley's dad know too much …or was he in on the take? And although Ty's a consummate professional, he's having trouble focusing on the facts of the case, and not the figure of his gorgeous client. The two are determined to get to the bottom of the case, even if it means they die trying.

One of this year's best books, Against the Mark- by Kat Martin, brings it on with her style, story and fabulous characters. The 9th installment of the Raines of Wind Canyon series, Against the Mark is fresh and exciting. Please enjoy this excerpt from the book.

Excerpt
Against the Mark, by Kat Martin

“I’ve got another client for you.  Tyler Brodie, I’d like you to meet my grandniece, Haley Warren.  Haley’s out here from Chicago.  Her grandmother was my sister.”
Just to regain a little of his dignity, Ty let his gaze roam over her, starting at the frosted-pink toenails peeking out of strappy high-heeled, open-toed sandals, sliding up a pair of long legs in snug fitting jeans, across that bare midriff with its glittering bellybutton ring over a set of nicely rounded breasts to a pretty face framed by long, softly curling honey blond hair.
She had big blue eyes, and an Angelina Jolie mouth that made him think of dirty sex.  Maybe she read his thoughts for a faint blush rose in her cheeks.
Good.  A little payback only seemed fair.
Besides, she was a real pleasure to look at.  Not beautiful in the classic sense like some of the women he knew, but with those dimples and big blue eyes, she was way beyond cute.
“Nice to meet you, Ms. Warren.”
The smile was gone and she assessed him coolly.  “Aunt Ellie tells me you’re a friend, as well as an investigator.”
“I like to think that’s true.”
“Of course it’s true,” Ellie said.  “That’s why I know we can count on Ty to help us.”
Wariness slid through him.  Ellie had a way of bringing him clients who were nothing but trouble.  “How’s that?”
“Well, you see, three months ago Haley’s father died when his power boat exploded.”
“I’m sorry for your loss,” he said to her.
Grief flashed in her eyes an instant before she glanced away.  “Thank you.”
“At the time everyone thought it was an accident,” Ellie continued, “a gas leak of some kind that turned deadly.  Haley’s stepmother doesn’t believe it.  About a month ago, Betty Jean started emailing Haley, trying to convince her to come to Los Angeles and help her find out the truth.”
Ty focused on the leggy blonde.  “And you think she’s right because...?”
“I don’t know if she’s right or not.  I’ve never met her.  Before he died, my father and I had been estranged for nearly five years, ever since he left my mother and ran off with another woman.”
“Betty Jean,” he said, just to make sure he was getting this straight.
“That’s right.  After he moved to L.A., Dad tried to mend our relationship, but I just...I couldn’t get past his desertion.”  She glanced down and her eyes misted.  “Now my father’s gone.”
Ty nodded, beginning to get the picture.  “So your dad’s dead and you regret not mending your fences.”
“Yes, I do.  Very much.  But the thing is, some of the things Betty Jean says make sense.  I owe it to my father to find out what really happened.”
He flicked a glance at Ellie, whose features looked a little too bland to suit him.  “I take it you’re here to convince me to help her.”
“That’s right.  You know how good you are at these things, Tyler.  Johnnie’s out of town on some case or other.  And Haley will be helping you.  That’ll save you from having to do everything by yourself.”
Haley would be helping him.  He could think of any number of things he’d like her to do for him, but none of them had anything to do with business.  The fact was Haley Warren was Ellie’s niece.  Seducing her probably wasn’t a good idea.
“Have you talked to the police?”
“Betty Jean has,” Haley answered.  “The police said there was nothing to indicate any sort of foul play.  But my stepmother isn’t convinced and if she’s right--“
“I’ll tell you what.  I’ll look into the circumstances of the accident, see if anything looks suspicious.  I’ve got friends in the department.  If something’s not right, I’ll talk to them myself.”
Haley reached over and caught his arm.  He felt a little zing of awareness and figured she must have felt it too since she stepped back as if she’d been burned.
She glanced away, took a deep breath and forced her eyes back to his face.  “I want to be involved in this, Mr. Brodie.  I need to find out for myself.  I owe it to my father to find out the truth.”

AGAINST THE MARK

For AGAINST THE MARK, my newest Romantic Suspense, out the end of August, my husband and I headed for Los Angeles, more specifically to Marina Del Rey.  That’s where the heroine, Haley Warren’s father is killed in a power boat explosion.  Though we live in Montana, we spend our winters on the California coast so we didn’t have far to travel.
In the story, private investigator Tyler Brodie--you met Ty in AGAINST THE NIGHT with Johnnie Riggs, and also in AGAINST THE EDGE with Ben Slocum.  When Ty agrees to help hot little blond Haley Warren find out the truth about her father’s death, he doesn’t realize the danger he and Haley are going to find themselves in.
After all, tens of millions of dollars worth of stolen art is plenty of motive for murder.
Besides a trip to the marina, which is surrounded by condos, restaurants, businesses, and shopping, we also drove the Miracle Mile, also known as Gallery Row, the location of the L.A. County Museum of Art and a number of other wonderful art galleries.
Investigating the settings, going to the galleries, restaurants, and staying in hotels in the area, makes the book feel more real--and hey, it’s also a lot of fun.
I hope you’ll watch for Ty and Haley in AGAINST THE MARK, the ninth book in the series.  And that next year, you’ll look for Ty’s cousins’s, the Brodie brothers, starting with Dylan Brodie in AGAINST THE WILD.
Tell me, what is your favorite LA hot spot?
Till then happy reading and have a great summer.   Kat

DARK LYCAN (DARK SERIES #24) BY CHRISTINE FEEHAN

As a die-hard Christine Feehan fan, I must tell you I have been eagerly awaiting this turn in the series. Ever since Dark Celebration, where Dimitri is revealed to be Skylar's Lifemate, I have been concocting possible outcomes to this gut-wrenching story. Then I was told by someone who has attended Ms. Feehan's conference that she was not going to write Dimitri and Skylar's story and I became frantic. When the continuation was finally announced I did a very public happy dance and began the countdown until I could have a copy of this much sought after story in my hands. Granted, it's not Skylar and Dimitri yet, but it's Christine Feehan in all her brilliance.

Carpathian, Fenris Dalka returns to the Carpathian Mountains after an extended absence for his brother Dimitri, he has also begins tracking a rogue pack of wolves that is being lead by a Vampire/Lycan who is set on destroying every Carpathian and human in his path.

Tatijana of the Dragonseekers has had a hard existence so far. She and her siblings were virtually encased in ice by their evil Mage father, Xavier for centuries. When she is finally freed from her prison she wants to experience all she possibly can without being under someone's thumb. Awakening one night, as she often did without her Carpathian guardians knowledge, Tatjiana goes off to a village tavern to experience some of the local normalcy. Fenris Dalka is there also, almost drawn nightly by the exquisite Tatijana. Once their eyes meet, they know their lives are changed forever. Fen attempts to deny his destiny because she is a wanted creature.

No longer fully Carpathian, Fen has also become Lycan and once the two have merged, they are hunted by full Lycans, who call them Sange rau, or bad blood. Fen must hide his identity from an elite group of Lycan hunters who have been in search of the rogue pack of wolves wreaking destruction  across the Carpathian countryside. When Tatijana crosses Fen's path, simple attraction is not even the issue but basic Carpathian instinct is and once Fen discovers his Lifemate in Tatijana and she restores his ability to see color and feel deep emotion, she is his biggest asset and his biggest liability.

When Fen realizes that the rogue wolf pack is being lead by not one, but two extremely powerful Sange rau, he must risk his exposure to help save Prince Mikhail and his Carpathian people from assured destruction by these wicked creatures who are near invincible in a fight. Tatijana overcomes her disdain to being tied to her Lifemate real quick when she understands the consequences and throws herself into the fight for her race's well-being and the survival of her most honorable Fen.

In typical Christine Feehan tradition, Dark Lycan teems with action, adventure and deep emotion. The Carpathians are like no other. They worship their women and children and protect their own and humans fiercely. This basic theme continually comes across in the Dark Series. Fen and Tatijana are amazing characters, both independent and both extraordinary in their differences. Their intense attraction is only the tip of the iceberg in this epic story. This is the 24th in the Dark Series and it is fresh and innovative with the Lycans finally having such a large role. The secondary relationship between brothers, Fen and Dimitri is a strong and thriving one. It's refreshing to see how protective they are of one another and how deeply they feel for their loved ones. Dark Lycan is a fabulous beginning to Dimitri and Skyar's tale. Ms. Feehan has a winner with Dark Lycan, a stellar continuation for the Dark Series. Now bring on Dark Wolf!!!
