She’s got too many cowboys on her hands

They have three grown children and enough grandchildren to keep them young. When she’s not writing she likes to spend time in her back yard with her two cats, Boots Randolph Terminator Outlaw and Chester Fat Boy, and watch them protect the yard from vicious critters like field mice, crickets and spiders.

She hoped he couldn’t see the tremble in her hand as she finished the apple and threw the core out into the river. An instant splash said that a big fish had snagged it.
“They’re too smart for me today,” she said as she pulled her rod out of the sand. She reeled in the line, removed the soggy bait, and fed it to the dog. She carefully wound the hook and line around the rod and stuck the tip in the cork handle.
“You leaving?” Rhett asked.
“Not yet, but they aren’t bitin’ today. Did you come from a big family?”
Rhett followed her lead and brought his line in also. Dammit wasn’t a bit interested in a soggy grasshopper, so Rhett tossed it back out on the water. Before he could get the line wound around the rod, a splash out in the river said that a fish had eaten the free food again.
“Dammit!” Rhett said.
The dog rose up and cocked his head to one side.
“Not you. That smart-ass fish,” Rhett said.
The dog resumed his position and his tail started again, this time in a different spot in the sand.
“He knows his name and he understands you.” Leah laughed.
“I raised him from a puppy. We’re pretty good friends.”
“You mentioned a sister in the store that first day. Is she your only sibling?”
Rhett shook his head. “No, but she’s the baby of the family. I have three older brothers, then me, and then Katie. O’Donnells throw pretty good-sized families. You should see us when we all get together over in Ringgold, Texas, for a reunion.”
“Why Ringgold?”
“My Uncle Cash has a horse ranch there, and it’s kind of a central location. The reunion is the last Saturday in September. Maybe we’ll be good enough friends by then that you’ll go with me.”
“Maybe. Or maybe we’ll be Sunday afternoon fishing buddies,” she said softly.
Dammit got mentally moved back to the rug beside Rhett’s bed. He had to earn that spot on the foot of the bed, and he hadn’t done it that day.
“Time will tell,” Rhett said.
“Guess I’d best get on back up to the ranch. Granny and I usually watch a movie together on Sunday night,” Leah said.
“So you live with her?” Rhett shut the lid to his tackle box.
“Have all my life. My dad, Russell, was born in that house. He’s the firstborn of five sons. The Brennans are a big family, but we all pretty much stayed on River Bend. Declan is my older brother, and both of us live with Granny and Daddy in the main ranch house.”
“Your mother?”
“Left when I was a toddler and never came back. Granny and Daddy raised me.”
“Maybe I’ll see you at the bar tomorrow night?”
She shook her head. “I’ve got to go to the school again and do some work.”
“Do you like teaching at a private school?”
“I never thought about whether I liked it or not. I got an education so I could teach at our school, but sometimes I wish all the kids in Burnt Boot went to the same school.”
“Why?”
“It would better fit them for the world. They only see kids from River Bend and don’t get as much outside contact as they need, and I’m tired of this feud.”
“Did you go to the private school?”
“Yes, I did, and then to college, but I was not at all prepared for the world.”
They bent to pick up their tackle boxes and her hair brushed against the side of his face. He gently tucked it behind her ear, and the soft dreamy look in her eyes drew him closer and closer until his lips found hers in a sweet kiss. It was impulse, spur of the moment, letting the heart lead the mind. And chaste as it was, it absolutely rocked Rhett’s emotions to the core.
“Hey, can I have your phone number in case I need someone to talk to later tonight?” he asked.
Leah hesitated but then she rattled it off. “You won’t remember it, but I don’t have a thing to write with or anything to write it on.”
“I’ll remember,” he said. “See you later, Leah Brennan.”

When Nathaniel leaves England on a mission for the war office, he doesn't realize he is leaving Isabel open to her family's devices. When Nathaniel finally returns to England discovering Isabel married another devastates him but then finds out she has been left a widow. Does he have a chance to win her heart again? He has no idea what this sham of a marriage did to her spirit. Isabel loved Nathaniel so fiercely but his years away left her bereft and her husband's continual betrayals made her wary of ever having happiness again.

Seeing her again, Nathaniel knows Isabel is his destiny, but convincing her is another matter all together. Before his death, Isabel's husband was having am illicit affair with a married woman and after Isabel's spouse's death, the husband of his lover is determined to seek recompense for the affair at Isabel's expense. Even though she was an innocent in the matter, the man has no shame in wanting to bring Isabel down. When Nathaniel finds all of this out, his protective instincts for the woman he still loves reemerges, but that instinct to be close to Isabel also puts her reputation in danger.

Will this pair who seem so destined to be together overcome all the obstacles put in their paths? Will Isabel trust her love for Nathaniel and allow their happily ever after to come to fruition? Find out all this and more by reading SCANDAL AT VAUXHALL by Layna Pimental.

SCANDAL AT VAUXHALL (Pleasure Garden Follies Book 1) is my first foray into reading this author and I am very happy to have read this engaging story. I love second chance romances and this is a prime example of why I do. The unhappily married widow reunites with the love of her life after so much heartache is placed in their paths. Isabel's maturity after her failed marriage is enlightening and more attractive once Nathaniel returns and must work for her heart. His determination is key to their happiness and watching their give and take is so good. An enjoyable read!

#BOC CHEERLEADERS FOR ROMANCE PRESENTS **ISABEL ALEXANDRA ALMEIDA**

Hey there all! Welcome again to the Book Obsessed Chicks CHEERLEADERS FOR ROMANCE feature. Today we have yet another awesome blogger from overseas. Isabel Alexandra Almeida is a prolific reviewer and reader. She does her best to spread the word about romance in Portugal as well as through her blog and I adore her. I hope one day that Isabel and I will be able to chat about our love of romance while hanging out together with a great glass of wine.

Please tell us a bit about yourself… I am a very busy lady, I am a Lawyer, I give private lessons to school students, and recently, last November I´ve finished a Master´s Degree in Clinical Psychology. I am also a local journalist and an avid reader. And the Passion for writing and reading lead me to the creation of a literary blog that celebrates  it´s 4th anniversary  on March 2016.  I also love cinema, cross stitch and my fabulous cats Kitty (the good) and lady (the villain).

When did you fall in love with the romance genre? My passion for romance was born when I was about eleven years old and started reading some classics such as Balzac, Flaubert and the Portuguese Eça de Queirós. My mom and my grandma taught me how to care for reading. When I grew older I started reading thrillers and mystery novels, and I am still a great fan of Dame Agatha Christie. Later I fell in love with vampires – Dracula at first and most recently Charlaine Harris and the True Blood Series and, of Course, Twilight. I have a particular passion for novels with its set in England, maybe due to Agatha Christie´s Characters and sets. Also love family series, historical novels, so easily I became a huge fan of regency novels. I also read contemporary romance, but there is something special about historical fiction.

What made you decide to help spread the word about romance? I decided to share my reviews at a blog, almost four years ago, and  my purpose is to bring more members to the reader´s club, unfortunately,  I guess that Portuguese People, generally don´t read much. But I have found a wonderful new world among avid and addicted readers like me, other bloggers in Portugal and across the Oceans that became good friends, and what started as an hobby is today a very dear project to me and a part of myself.

Who are your favorite authors? Here it comes a question hard to answer because I Guess I will always forget to mention someone. In historical fiction my favourite authors are: Kate Pearce,  Cheryl Holt, Nicole Jordan,  Emma Wildes, Jennifer Haymore, Nicola Cornick, Jess Michaels, Julia Quinn,  Patricia Cabot, Mary  Balogh, Tessa Dare, Loretta Chase, Sarah MacLean,  Phillipa Gregory, Madeline Hunter, Beatriz Williams, Elizabeth Edmondson, Barbara Cartland;  in contemporary novels: J. R. Ward, Elizabeth Adler, Nora Roberts, Abigail Barnette, Sylvia Day, Eve Berlin, Megan Maxwell, L. Marie Adeline, Liz Fenwick, Cathy Kelly, Sophie Kinsella, Malenka Ramos; Mistery Novels/Thrillers: Agatha Christie, Mary Higgins Clark, Arthur Conan Doyle, Rex Stout, James Patterson,  Patricia Cornwell. Young Adult: Jennifer Niven, Stephanie Perkins; New Adult: Jennifer Armentrout.

Who are your favorite romance cheerleaders?  Vera Carregueira, Ana Filipa Ferreira, well, and Kimberly Rocha J

What new books have you been shouting out about lately?  Lately, I have been Shouting about “All The Bright Places”, by Jennifer Niven, the first book I read this year and it made me cry but its so beautiful; I have also read lately “A very English Mistery” by the late Elizabeth Edmondson and in regency fiction the Portuguese edition of “Isn´t He Wicked”, by Emma Wildes.

What do you do when you’re not shouting out about great books?  I am reading great books, interviewing great authors or watching a movie or TV series.

Your Top 10 in Romance….  “A Hint of Wicked”, by Jennifer Haymore; “My only love”, by Cheryl Holt; “Desire”, by Nicole Jordan; “Simply Sinful”, by Kate Pearce; “Envy”, by J. R. Ward; “Taboo”, by Jess Michaels; “Indiscretion”, by Charles Dubow; “Pideme lo que quieras”, by  Megan Maxwell; “The Raven”, by Sylvain Reynard;“On Dublin Street”, by Samantha Young

Native Wolf (California Legends #2) by Glynnis Campbell

Rancher daughter, Claire Parker simply cannot marry the man her father wants her to marry. So to thwart his plans on this matter, Claire decides to run away from home. There's nothing left for her at the Parker Ranch since her Indian mother died and Claire feels she is a disappointment to her father. Feeling Yoema's death profoundly, Claire chops off her hair in native tradition for mourning her lost loved one and prepares to leave the ranch.

Before she has a chance to get away, Claire is abducted right from her home in just her nightgown. This is not how Claire pictured her departure and furthermore, this is abduction is nothing like the ones she reads in her beloved wild West adventures.

Overcome with discovering his grandmother's demise at the hands of white men, half-breed Chase Wolf leaves his twin brother at a saloon and heads out to the Parker ranch to seek revenge on ranch owner, Samuel Parker. Clearly intoxicated and not in his right mind, Chase grabs Claire and makes off with her on the prize stallion owned by Parker, Believing that his hostage is Samuel's wife, Chase puts distance between the ranch and when he finally sobers up, he realizes that this abduction is not quite the right thing to do.

How could everything go so wrong for Claire? Her departure now ruined by the abduction leaves her without a chance of being saved since she leaves a note in her bedroom at the ranch that she is leaving home on her own. Escape is futile as the half breed keeps her close and without a way to run, but Claire isn't going to go quietly and mentioning her Indian mother, Yoema to Chase only makes matters worse. Soon, Chase realizes her has to return Claire from whence she came, but Claire can't go home. She won't marry the ambitious ranch hand, Frank and Claire will do what she must do be free of him. The longer that Chase and Claire spend in each other's company, the more they come to know one another but also the more dangerous their association becomes when Samuel and Frank seek to find Claire with Frank determined to end the half breed's life.

NATIVE WOLF by Glynnis Campbell is a marvelously crafted tale of the historic wild west. I have not read many books by this author, but this book has made me put her books on my to be read list. Ms. Campbell's grasp of the Konkow culture is fascinating and made this history lover do some research into the tribe.  NATIVE WOLF has its fair share of danger, adventure and romance with a breathtaking backdrop of newly settled California to keep the reader engrossed from page one to the end.

Valentine's Rose by E.E. Burke

This wonderful and well-written start to THE BRIDE TRAIN series by E.E. Burke brings East to West when Irish immigrant, Rose Muldoon leaves the tenements of New York to find a new life out West as a mail order bride in a volatile town with an excess of men seeking female companionship.

When Rose boards her train headed West, she has no idea what to expect when she arrives in Cherokee County, Kansas. Hoping for something better and a life with a husband she can come to love and form a family with, Rose and the other women are angered when they find instead of being able to choose husbands, a lottery would take place and men who owned land claims would be chosen for them.

When exiled  Englishman Constantine Valentine sets his eyes on the tall, red-headed beauty, he has to remember what his ultimate goal is... Make his fortune and return to the family fold a rich man, showing his father he isn't a useless scoundrel. When Val finds out he must wed in order to claim property he won in a card game, wedding Rose is the only option to achieving his goal, but becoming intimately involved with Rose is out of the question.

Rose knows that Val feels the attraction too, but his distance is doing more harm than good to this honorable and hard working woman. Val can only stay aloof for so long, for when danger comes knocking on the door, he needs to decide if the woman he married is more important than his quest for wealth.

Valentine's Rose by E.E. Burke has everything I want to read in a Western romance, adventure, intrigue and anticipation. I love how two people from two different walks of life are able to put aside their pasts and become a united pair. E.E. Burke couldn't have told this tale any better. Valentine's Rose is a winner.
