He would move heaven and earth to protect her

Was she heaven-sent…or more heartbreak waiting to happen?

Haunted by a military mission that ended in personal tragedy, Declan Byrne still bears a soldier’s scars. As a park ranger on the secluded Mendocino coast, he guards his heart while standing ready for anything. Anything except a beautiful, ethereal woman with a mysterious past, falling from the cliffs to the rocks below.

Angel, as Declan decides to call her, has no memory of what happened. But as her body heals, disturbing dreams emerge. In Declan’s protective care, Angel feels safe to act on the undeniable passion between them, without the threats from old, unnameable demons. And, in time, she senses Declan needs her as desperately as she needs him. But when her past returns with a vengeance, Declan must decide just how much he’s willing to risk in order to keep the woman he loves safe.

EXCERPT: X-Rated

He sat up. They were in his bed, the moonlight shimmering through the curtains, striping the room in light and shadow. But he could see her clearly, her naked body kneeling next to his, her long hair like a veil around her shoulders, flowing over the curve of her breasts.
He was still pulsing with his orgasm, his cock thrumming, his body hot. And she was really there. In his bed, wiping her lips with the back of her hand.
Jesus.
He was shaking. What the hell had just happened? What had he let happen?
“Angel. What’s going on? What are you doing here?”
“I’m here to make you happy. To show you there is no reason to deny your desires. Or mine. Have I not made you happy? Your body is happy. But I still need you, Declan. I need you to touch me.”
“Jesus, Angel. I can’t believe this.”
“I’m real. I’m a woman, Declan, not a child. And I want you.”
She took his hand, and before he knew what she was going to do, she held his palm to her breast.
Jesus. Her flesh was warm, her nipple going hard beneath his fingers. He couldn’t force himself to pull away for a moment. When he finally tried to, she held on tighter.
“Please, Declan. Please don’t send me away again. I need you. And you need me. You cannot tell me you don’t.”
It was nearly impossible to think, his brain still half-dazed from coming. But he had to say something. Had to do something.
“Angel, this is not right. I can’t do this. We can’t do this.”
“We already have, Declan. And it was beautiful, as I knew it would be.”
He swore he could feel her pulse beating in the full flesh of her breast as she leaned into his touch.
“I’m here for you. For you, Declan. This is where I am supposed to be. You can’t tell me this is wrong. I won’t believe it. I love you, Declan.”
Love.
Jesus. Why did hearing her say that to him make his heart pound right out of his chest? His mind was going a hundred miles an hour. “You don’t know what you’re saying, Angel.”
“You cannot deny you feel something for me.”
He couldn’t.
God damn it.
“Of course I do! But this is...I don’t know anymore.”
“Feel this, Declan.” She held his hand closer, crushing her breast beneath their twined fingers. “Feel how my body heats for you. Feel my desire.”
She moved his hand down, over the soft cushion of her stomach. Lower still, in between her thighs. He was helpless to stop her. And when she slipped his fingers into her sweet, wet cleft, he was paralyzed.
“Ah, God...”
She sighed quietly, her breath coming out in a warm puff of air that grazed his cheek like a kiss.
“You are the first man to touch me, Declan. And it is better than anything I could have imagined. Your hand feels so different than mine. Larger. Stronger. And yours.”
She held him there, pressed against her mound. His heart was beating wildly. Totally out of control. He was out of control. Fucking helpless.
“I need you,” she said again. “I need you to touch me, Declan. I need you to quench this thirst. I feel as if I’ll die of it.”
Holding onto his hand with both of hers now, she slid it back and forth, over her cleft. Her flesh was soaking wet, slippery. And all he wanted was to touch her, taste her. Have her.
He knew in his head it was wrong. But his body felt right.
He couldn’t resist any longer. He could not do it.
“Declan, please have me. I will beg you until you do.”
Her hips were undulating against his hand, and he moved then of his own accord, sliding his fingers into her wet heat.
“Oh...” Her voice came out on a soft, whispered sigh.
“Angel.” His voice was gruff, thick with desire in his own ears.
“Yes...”
“I want you.”
“Yes, Declan. Now.”

EXCERPT: R-Rated-opening scene

Mist swirled around his feet, obscuring the hard-packed sand as Declan Byrne took his morning walk down the rugged beach. The sun was just beginning to rise, a faint amber glow casting the first golden rays of the day, barely touching the cresting waves of the Pacific Ocean. He loved it there, loved to come when it was still nearly dark, picking his way over the craggy rocks, the piles of driftwood and seaweed, the empty sound of the thundering ocean soothing him.
Liam, his enormous black mastiff, trotted beside him, his only company. Declan preferred it that way. He reveled in the loneliness, the isolation of this place. It was a big part of why he’d come back here six years earlier. He’d needed the quiet. He’d needed to heal. Maybe he still did.
Abby...
No, don’t think about her now.
Don’t think about her, period.
He turned instead to the sea, watched as Liam chased the edge of the incoming waves, sniffing, backing away as the water surged onto the sand. This was their daily ritual. How Declan got his head on straight before beginning work, before he had to interact with other people, something he’d been lousy at the last few years. He much preferred his dog, the ocean, the rough and lonely Mendocino coastline, to people.
His work as a forest ranger didn’t require much human contact. This particular job included making sure trails were cleared, keeping order in the campgrounds, the occasional lost hiker, and sometimes training new rangers. But mostly, it was just him and the forest, the lone stretches of beach and rugged cliffs that made up the National Park’s coastline. Probably the biggest reason why he’d taken the job. That, and something about his father having worked in this area as a ranger most of his life, up until he’d retired a couple of years ago.
Following in the old man’s footsteps, no matter how he felt about him. But this place was home to him. His gruff father was home to him, even though they’d barely spoken since his mother died.
Don’t think about that, either.
The sun was coming up fast, warming the damp air as he and Liam climbed over the rocks to the next crescent of sand. Declan stopped and looked out to sea, tracking the rising sun, the surge of the gray and green water, and felt that brief moment of peace he sought each day. He breathed in the sharp salt air, filling his lungs. Watched as a lone gull flew in low over the water on silent wings, skimming the surface beyond the waves. Peace here, yes. He didn’t want to stop to consider why he needed it so desperately.
A hard thump behind him; shocking, how loud it was,how it made the ground shake. Declan spun around, his heart hammering while Liam went off, barking like crazy.
A woman lying on the sand before him. He nearly tripped over her in the half-dark, had to dig his heels into the rocky beach to steady himself. The crashing of the cold surf faded into the background as he tried to grasp what he was seeing. Liam had stopped barking and was sniffing her limp body, his huge black head dwarfing her.
He grabbed for the mastiff’s collar. “Liam, off!”
What the hell?
She was naked, bleeding, one leg caught on the rocks, twisted at an impossible angle. His brain shifted into high gear as he bent over her, adrenalin swamping his veins in a hot, speedy current.
Where the hell had she come from? Must have fallen from the cliffs. He looked up, peering through the pale light, his gaze wandering up the ragged cliff side, but he saw nothing, no one.
“Jesus,” he muttered as he pulled out his cell phone and dialed 911.
As the phone rang his gaze roamed her body, trying to assess the damage in the diffused light of the rising sun. Pale, waving blonde hair down to her knees.  There were strange symbols painted all over her: her stomach, her thighs, across her bare breasts. They were lush and round, he couldn’t help but notice, then cursed himself. The woman was half dead, for God’s sake. He leaned in closer, trying to find out if she was breathing. He didn’t want to touch her. No, he wanted to touch her. He didn’t dare.
What the fuck is wrong with you?
There. A small, gasping breath rattling in her chest.
Thank God.
An operator finally answered the phone, and he quickly told the man who he was, gave him details, his location.
He hung up to wait for the rescue team, finally dared to reach out and lay his fingertips on her wrist to check her pulse. Bones like a bird, isn’t that what the saying was? She was so delicate...
She was alive, her breath shallow, but she was taking one after another. There was blood everywhere; he could smell it even over the tangy ocean scent in the air, but beneath the mess he could see a lovely, angelic face. Hard to tell how old she was. Late teens? Early twenties? Closer inspection showed him bits of twigs—herbs, maybe?—and small bones woven into her hair. On her upturned palms were pentagrams painted in red.
Who the fuck would have done something like this?
Liam was standing next to him, over the girl, peering into her face as though he were trying to figure it out, too.
He’d never seen anything like it. He never wanted to again.
He fought back the sense of horror that made bile rise, made his throat want to close up.
So much blood...

Matthew~ Book 1 of The Circle Eight by Emma Lang

Matthew Graham and his  siblings come home from an outing in town to find their parents murdered and their youngest brother, Benjamin missing. All the hopes that their parents had for expanding  the Graham family's holdings may be dashed with this awful event. Matthew, the eldest at 25 finds himself in the precarious position as head of the family, and he wants to continue what his parents had set out to do.

Matthew travels to Houston to claim a land grant which will expand the acreage on the Graham holding only to find out from the land office that in order to claim said land, Matthew must have a wife, but Matthew is unmarried. What shall he do? When the land officer asks if he is married, he lies and even gives his imaginary wife's name, Hannah. Oh this keeps getting better and better! The land officer gives Matthew a period of  thirty days in order to bring Hannah the imaginary wife back to the land office to sign the papers necessary to make the land Graham land. Now Matthew is in quite a bind.

Enter Hannah Foley, a plain looking 23 year old who lives in town. Hannah has been helping her grandmother run the local boarding house for years now and hasn't had many prospects in the man department, that is until Matthew Graham literally bumps into her at the local store. One touch has each of them discombobulated. When Matthew finds out her name is Hannah he can't believe his luck, and so the real trials begin.

Not only do Matthew and Hannah have the trials and tribulations of their quick nuptials, but they also come face to face with possibly unraveling the mystery of the Graham parents

What an awesome way to begin a series! I thoroughly enjoyed Matthew and the Graham clan. Matthew and Hannah have their work cut out for them trying to bring their family together without having to have others against them. Taking two virtual strangers and seeing their relationship progress is my favorite part of this. Emma Lang aka: Beth Williamson is a fabulous writer who gives you just enough to keep you coming back for more. You really feel for the characters... from the hero and heroine all the way to the snotty sister Olivia who is most unwelcoming to Hannah when she arrives. I am truly looking forward to more Circle 8 books and I plead with you Beth.... hurry up and give me more!!!

Working Stiffs ~HIRED HELP~ by S.L. Carpenter and Sahara Kelly

Rose Jackson is a young, frustrated and very wealthy widow. She hasn't had intimate contact with a male in so long that her friends send her to a resort of sorts that specializes in what is ailing Rose, discreetly.
Mel Kent is Rose's extremely protective bodyguard. He also has been secretly pining after his boss for some time, but for the sake of professionalism had hidden his feelings.
The resort has set Rose up with Josh. His reputation as a fabulous lover proceeds him and when Rose sees him, Josh seems to be exactly what the resort and her friends profess him to be.
Hmm, will Mel be able to stand by idly while Josh seduces his boss? Will Rose allow herself a liaison that has no feelings involved? The answers and more when you read HIRED HELP.
What an awesome read. Short and sexy, right to the nitty gritty. It is so obvious that S.L. Carpenter and Sahara Kelly are so at ease writing together. I am looking forward to more of these short and sweet novellas. They certainly get one going!

The Virgin Huntress by Victoria Vane

Vesta is in London for her coming out.  She is a very outspoken girl and according to her godmother, very spoiled.  She always finds a way to get what she wants, even if she has to bribe others to get it.  She has her eyes set on her godfather’s brother. According to her it was love at first sight. She will do anything to make sure she gets him.
Hew is a Captain who fought in the army and just recently returned to London.  He thinks that Vesta is a spoiled child who should be sent back to her father for discipline before she should be allowed to find a husband.
Throughout the whole book, Vesta was completely determined to get what she wanted. I found it funny sometimes that she tried to be sweet and innocent when everyone knew she wasn’t.  It did surprise me when she went to her godfather for help. The one person who she was warned against seeing, the one who helped her the most.
The way that she convinced Hew that he was her love was completely priceless. I think that in today’s world, there would be a lot of laughter involved when it was all over. I completely enjoyed that part of the book. It definitely proved that a woman, no matter from what time she is in, can get what she wants as long as she fights for it.
The problem that I had with this book was that it started out a little slow. It did not completely suck me in like I thought it would. Overall the book was an interesting read for me. I do recommend reading the rest of the author’s books that has to do with this just so that you can keep up with the characters. I will definitely see about getting other books by this author to read.
As I first started reading this, I didn’t think I would enjoy it. It started out differently than other historical romances that I have read.  In the end I did enjoy it.

Stetsons & Smexin' with Tell Blog Tour

Continuing the Stetsons & Smexin' with Tell Kick Off Tour hosted by Under the Covers and Guilty Pleasures I had the opportunity to ask Lorelei a few questions and here's what she had to say...

What was your inspiration for the Rough Riders Series?

The contemporary westerns I read didn't have nearly enough sex for me, so I wanted to write a book with lots of sex, lots of heart, lots of family ties, but that also stayed true to the area I live in. I wasn't sure initially that there would be more than one book, so I was able to build on those themes as I went along.

Do you identify personally with any of your characters?

I think at some point in every book I identify with something about each character—male and female. I know that sounds weird.

Who and Why?

In KISSIN’ TELL, my heroine Georgia Hotchkiss makes a comment about everyone thinking she was a dumb cheerleader. I was a cheerleader in high school and remember that mindset all too well. I’d like to say I’m as kickass as Keely McKay Donohue but Keely is a lot tougher and a lot wilder than I’ve ever been or I’ll ever be.

Branded as Trouble is one of my favorite books in the series! India Ellison just happens to be one of my favorite females, because like her sister Skylar, she is strong-willed and different. Yes they have their issues, but don't we all?

Colt and India as a perfect match. The heat oozes from them throughout this entire tale. Being friends at first was a clincher, and the change from friendship to relationship is extensively gratifying!

Of course Branded as Trouble is a must read. Lorelei James knows very well how to bring together two seemingly different people with a roller coaster ride all along the way! ENJOY!

She once led him around by a string. Now he’s the one holding the reins.
Georgia Hotchkiss swore wild horses couldn’t drag her back to Sundance, Wyoming. So it’s ironic she’s forced to take a rodeo PR job in her former hometown—right before her ten-year class reunion. The only thing worse than facing her cheating ex-husband and his pregnant wife? Showing up to the reunion without a date. Fate smiles on her when she runs into her former classmate and current cowboy hottie Tell McKay. With his infectious smile and fun-loving ways—not to mention his banging body—he’s the perfect solution to her problem.
Tell McKay had it so bad for Hot Lips Hotchkiss during high school that he let her run roughshod over him. But he is no longer that easily manipulated boy—these days he’s earned a reputation with the ladies that lives up to the McKay last name. He agrees to escort her to the reunion with one stipulation; that Georgia proves she has left behind the goody-goody cheerleader of the past—by sharing his bed.
Their sexual chemistry flashes so bright, they barely notice that the reunion has come and gone, and now they’re tangled up in another dreaded “R” word—relationship. But if Tell wants to get the girl this go-around, he’ll have to come up with a whole new set of knots to tie up her heartstrings.
Warning: Contains a sweet talkin’ wild cowboy with a wagon load of crazy-hot sex fantasies and the mad bedroom skills to back up his claims.

EXCERPT

****

Tell McKay had a boner.

In history class.

At least it hadn’t happened in math, where he’d have to stand at the board to solve a problem and then everyone could see…his problem.

His cheeks burned imagining how much that would suck.

He shifted in his seat and blamed his situation on the distraction seated in front of him.

The oh-so-hot, oh-so-out-of-his-league, sweet, sexy and amazingly perfect class beauty, Georgia Hotchkiss.

Yeah, Georgia was always on his mind.

She was something else. A petite powerhouse. The ultimate diversion. Those damn short, damn tight cheerleading skirts that showcased her athletic body. If he angled his head to the side, he caught a glimpse of her muscular thigh instead of the back of her head. Not that the view was bad. Her hair was as black and shiny as a crow’s wing in the sun. Add in her china white skin, full ruby lips and Georgia could be a modern day Snow White.

You’re a real poet, McKay. More like a fuckin’ pervert. Think about something else.

“Tell?”

Startled by the husky rasp of his name, he glanced up from his notebook, right into pale, icy blue eyes that made him stammer like a fool. “W-what?”

“Did you do the homework assignment?”

Be cool. Do not imagine Hot Lips Hotchkiss whispering that in your ear. “Yep.”

Her mouth curved into a smile. He wondered if the gloss glistening on her lips was flavored. Would it taste like bubblegum? Peaches? Ripe black cherries?

“Thank God. Can I copy it?”

Tell managed to rip his focus from her plump lips. Before he could speak, she cranked the charm on high.

“Please? You let me do it before. And I didn’t have time because I was…”

Sucking face with your asshole boyfriend?

Hell for Leather by Beth Williamson

Since discovering the Malloy Family series, and meeting dark character, gunslinger, Kincaid, I have been wishing he had his own story. Thank goodness, he does!!!!

Kincaid, fed up with his lifestyle, but not believing he fits in anywhere, heads for a New Mexico town where he buys a cabin to call home, something he has never had. Kincaid plots his own death and buries the remembrances of it, his black clothing and his guns and takes the name Cade Brody for his new life.

When Cade makes a trip into town to buy supplies for his new homestead, he meets widow, Sabrina Edmonds and is pretty much thrown for a loop immediately. Cade says he wants to be alone, but his actions speak otherwise and Sabrina is quite receptive to those actions.

In addition to Sabrina turning him inside out, Cade is confused by the appearance of turnips daily on his porch and other strange goings on around his cabin. Some townspeople say it's a ghost, but when Cade discovers the truth he seeks out the help of Sabrina to see what they can do about the "ghost".

When Cade's past comes in search of him he finds he has more in his corner than he thought, even when his past is revealed. This story proves that if you strive to overcome the strife in your past, you only have a bright future ahead with the help of those who care for you.

Once again Beth Williamson has done it. Yes, I am a huge fan, I haven't read a book of hers I didn't like, and there's just something about the dark bad boys that attract me. Great plot, awesome characters, yet another strong female make for a wonderful tale. I would love to see this couple in the future. Thank you Beth Williamson for continuing to make me happy and keeping up until the wee hours of the morning.
Great Read!!!!!

Bride of the High Country by Kaki Warner

The story begins with Margaret Hamilton, an orphan with a not so bright, but secretive past, preparing for her wedding to wealthy Irishman/New Yorker, Doyle Kerrigan. It's not a love match, but Margaret doesn't believe in love, just security and safety. After discovering that her intended is not all he presents himself to be, she still takes that walk down the aisle but absconds before the reception, leaving her "husband" confused. Her loving guardian Mrs. Ida Throckmorton plays like she has no idea what's going on, when she is the one that encouraged her ward to run.

When Doyle realizes that his bride as run off with the stock options he gifted her, he sends his right hand man, Tait Rylander to find the runaway. Only thing is, Mr. Rylander has been pining after Margaret for a year and never did anything about it. Can he be objective enough to find Margaret but not return her to his gruff "employer"? Hmmmmm.  Will he let Margaret know he has feelings for her?

Once Margaret is free of Doyle Kerrigan, or she thinks she is, she becomes quick friends with Englishwoman, Maddie Wallace, who we meet in book one of Kaki Warner's Runaway Brides series.
The two ladies end up in Heartbreak Creek, Colorado.Margaret, now using the name Lucinda Hathaway and Maddie take up residence in the comfy town, making new friends.

Danger is always lurking for Lucinda now as she has more than one person from her past seeking her out and in addition, Tait Ryland, who wants to protect her and open his heart to her. Will the new Lucinda Hathaway allow that to happen? Will she allow her past to continue to taint her future? Read Kaki Warner's Bride of the High Country to find out.

How I enjoyed this book!! I loved the suspense and that all the characters were not quite all that they portray themselves to be. I loved the capacity for change and understanding, which every single one of Kaki Warner's books have. I was a fan of hers from the get-go. It just goes to show that out of darkness the sun can always shine with the right people beside you. I highly recommend this book.... A joy to read!
